Everyone in the hallway, windows and doors closed, getting dropped and then dropped more. sweating profusely, getting dropped more. so much moisture in the hallway the walls get wet and start to drip. Puddles of sweat on the floor. Nothing is dry from sweat, condensation and the Maryland humidity.Okay, I’ll ask. Sweating walls?

Amazing to think about all those decades of sweat. Leaving their mark. Their essence physically absorbed into the structure itself for all of eternity.Everyone in the hallway, windows and doors closed, getting dropped and then dropped more. sweating profusely, getting dropped more. so much moisture in the hallway the walls get wet and start to drip. Well, one must pay tuition, after all.take out a HELOC for a Midshipmen Store splurge
... Ok, you want adventure in the bookstore, go to the dining merchandise area. I bought all kinds of sets -> (2 each) drinking glasses, table cloths, coffee cups, beer mugs. At the cash register, the staff wraps each object like it's from ancient Mesopotamia, 10-15 minutes. The beer mugs {bronze??} are interesting; a card instruction is included on how to prep it for your favorite beer. I use it for display mostly in the house but on occasions I take it out as if it's the red badge of courage. It's a slow conversation starter, "so you went to Naval Academy? No, my son is there now." If traveling by air, need to have a separate luggage for it. Don't let those crazy luggage handlers touch it in any way shape or form. Bon Appetit!I'm headed down to the Yard early tomorrow. I'm, going to soak it all in. In between business calls, I'll get the DBIDS card, grab a coffee, walk the perimeter, hit Dahlgren for plebe summer books and other goodies, Museum tour, take out a HELOC for a Midshipmen Store splurge, watch noon and evening formation.
Heck, I may climb Herndon myself! Am I missing anything?

Educational Challenge. Find these all over the Yard, use the QR code to read the stories of the Vietnam POWs. 2023 is the 50 year anniversary of their return. This will take you all over the Yard, might give purpose to your walk.

Stroll around Worden Field, taking your time as you pass the homes. I always enjoyed looking at the names and ranks painted on the porch steps, signifying who lives there. (I once saw CMDR So-and-So inscribed on a step, so I asked DD if she knew this female officer, since there aren’t many on the Yard. DD said, “She’s my Batt-O. Amazing woman. Very intense.”) You can extend this walk just beyond the chapel and Buchanan House, past the homes arrayed along the perimeter wall, where more SLEs and officers live. These are the people guiding, training and teaching our mids.Am I missing anything?
Outstanding recommendations. Thank you!Stroll around Worden Field, taking your time as you pass the homes. (I once saw CMDR So-and-So inscribed on a step, so I asked DD if she knew this female officer, since there aren’t many. DD said, “She’s my Batt-O. Amazing woman. Very intense.”) You can pick up this walk just beyond the chapel and Buchanan House, past the hones arrayed along the perimeter wall, where more SLEs and officers live. The aircraft display just inside Gate 8 is worth the walk. It’s called Ellyson Park, to honor the Navy’s first naval aviator. Few people go there, it’s quiet, and you get a close-up look and feel of the planes. Since you’re in the vicinity, head toward Hospital Point and along the Severn. If there are mids around, it’s fun to watch them in action.
If you’re grabbing coffee, I suggest the little shop just inside Gate 3 (rather than at the Mid Store or Dry Dock). You can sit outside and watch academy life go by. DD, DS and I were sitting there early one Sunday morning, the very first customers. DD was relaxing and nursing her latte when suddenly she bolted upright and assumed her game face. A second later, she turned her head to someone walking by in shorts and t-shirt, clearly out for a morning stroll. She nodded and said, clearly and boldly, “Good morning, sir.” He returned her greeting and continued on. It was the Supe.
Those are some of my favorite places. Especially early in the morning it just before sunset. It’s like you have the yard to yourself to quietly absorb it all.Stroll around Worden Field, taking your time as you pass the homes.
