I have extremely bad vision; approx. 20/400 in each eye. I want to be a pilot after graduating USAFA, and I want to know what the protocol is for electing to get PRK while at USAFA so I can become PQed? I do not have any astigmatism problems or anything just bad vision.

I have heard it is pretty easy to be chosen to get PRK while at the Academy, but I would just appreciate some more insight into this matter.

Thanks.

I can't say it is easy to get PRK at USAFA, there are many who don't qualify. With your vision, there is a chance, but no one can say for sure. It will be up to the eye doctors at USAFA.
My DD had it done this fall, very successful. She had extremely poor vision in one eye, the other was not what they considered bad enough. Had it not been for her bad right eye she would not have qualified (in the 20/400+ range plus astigmatism).
Anyway the selection process will begin late in your sophomore year. The surgery, if you qualify, won't be before commitment of your junior year.

One factor many don't think about is the physical condition of the eye. It's not just about the vision...it's the corneal thickness and symmetry. These are conditions you cannot know going into the academy. What the academy is willing to do PRK on and what a civilian doc will operate on are not the same.

Yeah, you just ask when you get your exam sophomore year. The docs there do quite a bit with waivers and PRK, so they can fill you in.
