Recognition

if the plebes did anything that was "killer" it would end up with many people getting stuck for it. thats why nothing can be done to really impress the 1/c.

the burden of being a 2013 parent

It is just so disheartening as parents to to be told over and over again by 21yr olds how worthless our offspring are and how they are not worthy of being part of Kings Point.
Now we must live with the knowledge that our children may, in fact, be the demise of Kings Point. Lordy, I don't think I can stand the weight of the burden of knowing my DS/DD is going to bring down an institution...:shake:

Thank goodness I'm not alone & share this terrible burden with about 300 other parents.

Ha ha ha...love it!

Funny, as I was reading some of the comments on this board I was thinking...isn't the lack of progress the plebes have made a direct indicator of something lacking in the upperclass leadership? I would think that most young men and women who choose a SA are more than willing to fall into the military lifestyle, and are willing to follow the orders of those who are their superiors....that is, if said superiors have shown themselves to be worthy leaders.

I'm sure I'll be corrected if I'm off base here.

*ducking and covering now....:zip:

Nuff Said.

Obviously, all us parents don't realize 2010 had the last "real" plebe year at KP

Next year, 2011 will have had the last "real" plebe year and so on. It's tradition at every academy that no matter what class you are in, you had the last "real" plebe year.

I will say, with pride, the Class of '77 from the Naval Academy had the last real plebe year of all the service academies :thumb:

Plebes, and parents, just gotta roll with the punches.

One year from now all of you parents of plebes will be reading posts like this and smiling. Just as I am now. This happens EVERY year! Every plebe class is "the worst ever." The 1st class is ALWAYS frustrated with their performance at this point. There are a number of forces at play here. First of all they are in the middle of the "dark ages." and it affects everyone, upperclassmen included. But also and perhaps more significantly, the second trimester has just ended and this is often an academic blood bath for the plebe class. Statistically 10-15% of the class may be facing setbacks or dis enrollment. Most have known that this was coming for quite some time and it has had a debilitating effect on them, their friends and the plebe class as a whole. When a plebe knows they may be leaving soon some will become "uber" plebes hoping that excellence in the regiment will save them. Unfortunately, it won't. Others will stop trying all together. I suspect that if the upper classmen were to make a list of those who have stopped greeting, stopped saluting and stopped "squaring" and compared it to a list of people who were failing they would be remarkably similar. But, the bad attitude can be contagious and it effects the class as a whole. In a few days they will be gone. The ones who remain will pull together just as the classes before them have.
As for the upperclassmen there is little they can do with someone facing the reality of having to leave KP. IT? It's not allowed. Demerits? What difference does that make to someone who is leaving? Restriction? An exercise in futility.

Thanks but, unfortunately it is a wisdom born from observations made over time. I'm certainly not "wise" in the classic sense of the word.

KPMarineopsdad,
You certainly are wise in every sense of the word. Your wisdom and insight has been most appreciated over the past 10 months and I think I speak for more than myself in saying that.
Ok I know- OFF TOPIC.

Each plebe class is a direct reflection of their first class. We were recognized very early, early Feb to be exact, and we had a great first class who I felt took a lot of interest in us and were very helpful to us. Even zombos cared what we did and didn't do, and no body was a jerk about it. The class after us was a total mess, but so were their first class I was told. That first class wasn't recognized till May and as it was told to me it was because their first class was told by the administration to recognize them. The plebes had stopped caring and were doing what they wanted. Why bother they firgured, we'll be 3/C in a month anyway. By the time they were 1/C they were in general heavy handed and tried to rule through fear. As a result their plebes were recognized late also and turned in to a mess of a 1/C themselves.

I don't recall a noticible "dark ages" but it does make sense.

Thank you for that historical insight KPENGINEER. It is helpful for the parents of 2013 to hear that perspective.

I'm not a KPer, but I'll chime in here because some of the comments reflect stuff that goes on at every military college/SA. At VMI, the class you belong to always the hardest Ratline, and the cadets below you "had it easy." It's totally bogus. Good to see that you are taking the assertions that your plebe's class is unmotivated, etc. with a smile and a grain of salt. In a couple of years, your plebe will be a First Classman, and will call and tell you how awful the plebe class, and how they are going to be the downfall of the school.

Most Plebes/Rats/Knobs/Doolies/Swabs/Whatever are less motivated than they were at the start of the year. Why? Because they are human beings who are sick of the BS by this point, it's natural. Every class that has gone to a military college or service academy is guilty of this. They will unite together soon for one last push, and then the crap will be over. This is nothing new.

If you want another first classmens opinion I don't think the plebes will be recognized anytime soon. Speaking for myself, No that would not be necessary

In fact I wrote an email recently requesting they not be recognized and my reasoning is valid. Great Leadership. Good to know Acta non Verba lives in your heart.

The plebes are not doing what plebes are supposed to be doing. They are walking where only upperclassmen are supposed to be walking, not squaring, saluting 1/c and when a first classmen tries to correct them...a 3 bar no less...they blow them off. Guess the entire class is just a bunch of disrespectful and unmotivated young people that thought they were coming to a fun camp. They should all be disenrolled and the academy skip having a class of 2013. That might even help with financial issues!

In my opinion if they don't get their act together then we can always wait till the default date of graduation to recognize them. Waiting for a problem to get worse without added value as a 1C leader. Oh My

And as istodayforhim said they have not done anything to really impress the 1/c. istoday is preparing for and expecting the demise of the entire academy. At least 2010 will have graduated and "got theirs" before then!

So parents if you want your kids to be recognized before May pass the word for your kids to straighten up and listen to the 1/c. Parents don't own the actions of their Plebes. The plebes do. You may misunderstand. Parents are just following the progress and asking questions they do not know answers to. Because some of us are new to KP. However, the energy and drama (fiction) that some posts on here contain is quite entertaining.

Also do something insanely awesome that will make the 1/c say ok that was killer we should recognize them. If they start doing what they're supposed to then I will be the first one to recommend recognition. Until then I'm not impressed and want to see more unity with the class. Where have these plebes been all their lives? Listening to rock music and bad mouthing their country I suppose... (para quote from the movie; An Officer and a Gentleman)

  :shake: :yllol:

i was not trying insinuate that your kids are worthless. although it probably did come across that way. i sincerely appologize for that.

it's true that all the classes think they were the last to have it rough, and i am fully aware of that. however what i was getting at is not that they have it easy or anything like that. i was stating WHY they haven't been recognized. it's not because they're worthless, it's because they haven't been doing what they're supposed to do for recognition. that's all.

............it's true that all the classes think they were the last to have it rough, and i am fully aware of that............. that's all.

Red Herring Alert.

Have not seen any posts saying 2013 thinks/feels/knows they have it rough or rougher than their predecessors....................just a few upperclassmen saying 2013 both sucks and blows. That's all.

@2013parent - I don't think it's a red herring, EVERY upper class thinks they were the last class to have it rough as plebes and they are the best. That's the way it's been for the 31 classes I have first hand knowledge of. Of course the 30 classes, other than my own, are absolutely wrong, our class had it the roughest and was the best.....:thumb:

I must have misread/misunderstood. I thought he was stating 2013 was saying how rough they (2013) were having it. Sorry

p.s. You are correct, I heard about your class and No Class before or since has ever even come close to having it that rough!
