Service selection sheets turned in for c/o 24!!

OMG it's tomorrow, and the waiting and suspense will be over! Does anyone know if it's ever livestreamed? Or, what time it all "goes down" tomorrow?
Not live streamed. Is a private moment within company. Happens over lunch in each companies wardroom.

You will see tons of social media posts and pics if you follow popular Instagram accounts, etc. You will also see shaved heads on the football team this weekend….they got Marines!

Good luck everyone.

Deep Breaths.

Glad it’s not live-streamed. It’s a poignant, emotional event. Most will be thrilled. Some will not. Seems appropriate that it’s something company mates share together in private, after all they’ve been through together.

What’s fun is the photos as they emerge from the wardroom, with the underclassmen waiting outside to celebrate the new selects. Loved seeing photos of DD running the gauntlet of underclassmen offering high fives. Then the photo of all the Marine selects, with the Dant (a Marine) standing at the center. They were all beaming.

I seem to recall that there was a Firstie party for SA (I think) last yr in Dahlgren or King Hall and there was drink tkts handed out & a few managed to compile quite a few from others and some got out of hand. I recall that Dep Dant read them the riot act at lunch the next day about unprofessional behavior.
great info shared - just replying to this post as it relates to professional behavior and celebrating. So some of you/ your young adults may service select aviation tomorrow.... Should any of your DDs/ DSs select SNA Student Naval Aviator-1390 (or Student Naval Flight Officer or anything really), please urge them to avoid at all costs a DWI/ DUI offense. Both for their position as a pilot/ officer in the Navy, and for the future option to fly for a major commercial airline, an arrest in this area can be a severe lapse in judgment / career killer. right now, the pendulum swings to the pilot's advantage - shortage, once they earn their certs and qual hours they get snapped up quickly... but if the pendulum swings or even now, good luck getting picked up to fly for American et al. with a DUI on your record.

Pro tip: Not until, but once the midn are Ensigns/ 2nd Lts and active duty and while they serve, they can get the 700.00 annual Amex platinum card fee waived. Among other benefits at present of that card is a 25.00 per month Uber credit (and a once a year 200.00 hotel credit to an elite group of hotels (think Walforf Astoria). Throw 4 ensigns together for a night out, and between that 25.00 credit for each of them plus shared costs, it can be a pretty affordable for them to go out and get silly but not risk their futures. plus, a couple of times a year if they rotate who pays the bill on their Amex, they can share a fancy hotel room, which also comes with a 100.00 room service credit, again be safe, etc. (I do not work for Amex - just a fellow parent with a SNA down in Pensacola.

My kid is one of those would have served as an officer regardless and will full commitment, but had a very strong desire to be a pilot - I lost many a night sleep worrying about this upcoming decision for y'all. Best of luck!

@Herman_Snerd Just an update: the Waldorf Astoria closed well over six years ago.
I appreciate what you are saying, however, about the death knell of a DUI on one's record, and pointing out the AMEX bennies of a Ensign/2nd Lt.

Thanks - I'm assuming you're referencing the Waldorf-Astoria near USNA closing some years back. just to clarify, the heads-up about the uber and hotel credit benefits are for when these young people are AD officers getting these Amex benefits for free, in their adventures beyond the 21402. for those following along, FYI, Waldorf Astoria is at present a luxury resort arm within Hilton and many are still operating including one in DC. My DS, an Ensign, used his hotel credit a couple of weeks ago at a Waldorf-Astoria down in the South. That card has great perks for those servicemen/ people who take advantage of it. Hope these details may perhaps help these soon to be officers:)

And if your newly minted ENS/2LT does get an Amex card, please teach them how to pronounce it correctly. DD said several times “Ay-mex” before I figured out what she was trying to say. Made me cringe a bit — someone trying to sound grown up but missing ever so slightly. 🤭🫣😂

There was a Waldorf-Astoria near USNA in Annapolis?!

I am familiar with the original hotel (well, not the original one the Astors owned, but the next one, which I think is being converted to condos in 2024) and now the luxury brand chain in the Hilton family.

Last year AMEX changed their rules (which apparently ebbs and flows). Every MIDN I know has at least one if not two AMEX cards already. (apparently gold and platinum offer different sets of perks)

Not sure if they locked that back down this year, however.

Getting a DUI can be the "death" of any military career. Years ago, while on the CNO staff, there were two mid-level (E-5/E-6) enlisted personnel who did our graphics for briefs. One night, one of the guys didn't show up. The next morning, I asked what had happened. He'd been picked up for DUI the day before. Never saw him again. Seriously.

While in engineer school class a few months ago, my son signed up for Amex platinum, Amex Gold, and Chase Sapphire Reserve.

All fees waived. All with different benefits.

Wasn’t there talk about establishing a bar on the Yard for upperclassmen of age? Doesn’t West Point have that? I remember a chapter in Absolutely American (I think that’s what it’s called) about Branching night (like 20 years ago).
USMMA has a midshipmen run Pub on campus for 1/c. ☺️

The practice was discontinued several years ago for service assignment. Ship selection is still streamed for public view.

Noon Eastern tomorrow I hear! They also released stats to the class today on how many slots were filled for each community and gave percentages based on OOM.

Kinda feel like I need to take the day off work tomorrow 😛🤣

P.S. My Firstie has had the AmEx Platinum for over a year now. Has come in handy for us parents too. Sure is something to be an "authorized user" on our kid's card!

Is that available somewhere, or given to MIDNs? I know they normally list them at some point online.
