Maybe they send later ones priority? DS got his in December so either there was no hurry or he ripped off packaging I never saw

The good old days of no internet and basically no info. You got your acceptance or rejection whenever it came in the mail. There was no stressing about it or knowing where anyone else stood in the process.

When I was in HS I don't remember anyone stressing about the days leading up to acceptance or rejection.

There is something to be said of days gone by and simple living.

I was looking for a white envelope as well, I really don't know why. So it was quite a surprise when a manila envelope arrived out of the blue. That was mid-Feb. No call from MOC.

Good luck to everyone today!!

Well just got a call from the BGO. We won't be getting a letter this week. They are going to be looking at DD file again now that she has her medical waiver for allergic reaction to watermelon. He did ask if she would be open to the prep-school. He knew little about it and when looking at their sight it is non-specific too. Does him asking this mean she is going to be recommended to the prep school? Is that a bad thing?
Is the prep-school tuition based? Any info welcome. So confused and lost. Would she have to reapply to the Academy and get another nomination?

There are two forms of prep school -- NAPS and Foundation. NAPS is free. Foundation is partially subsidized by the USNA Foundation (private donations), partially by the Foundation school itself, and partially by parents, based on their ability to pay.

Either one essentially "guarantees" you an appointment to USNA the following year provided you successfully complete the program and still want to attend USNA. They reapply but the application is largely "pro forma." They must apply for a nom but, if they don't receive one, they will be given a SecNav nom.

Prep school is generally viewed as a "good thing" for those wanting to attend USNA. Yes, it's an extra year. BUT, it provides additional preparation in terms of academics, maturity (i.e., living away from home), athletics, etc.

Can't speak to whether your BGO "knows anything" about your DD. As a general rule, candidates who are deemed not scholastically qualified but who are viewed as very strong, may be offered NAPS/Foundation. That can mean high grades/class rank but lower SATs or the converse. It could be doing really well academically in your school but the school itself not being particularly strong academically. Or various other combinations.

I think it is because, while she had strong test scores and a great GPA and is graduating first in her class, our school does not offer AP courses and the highest math she could take through the community college was Trig. She challenged herself with dual credit corses and will graduate with her Associates before she graduates highschool, but is lacking her Calculus and Physics.
Thanks for the help.

No good time for no good mail

So I know that several people don't get their mail until late in the day and that the waiting all day probably drive you nuts. But I just want to say that as some who gets their mail early in the morning, it is just as bad. I don't think that there is an ideal time to get the mail in our situation, I know the wait would kill me all day if it came in the evening but when I get the mail around 10 a.m. and there is yet again nothing good it is almost as if the rest of the day is a waste haha. For those of you that hate getting the mail late in the day, trust me in morning is just as bad:yllol::yllol:

This is probably your answer for the question about NAPS. Plebe year is Calculus, Chemistry and Physics. Anyone that hasn't taken these courses in high school will probably struggle at the academy. A NAPS offer would be a good thing in her situation.

No news... Or mail ... In md again. :(

All quiet on the western front! Nothing in the mail today in California!

No news from South Carolina either

When our oldest DS heard (he is USNA 2015) it was the last week of March, and we got a call at home from MOC office (not the Congressman himself, but the staff member who was in charge of all things Service Academy at his office - I remember her telling me that making these calls was the highlight of her year!). BFE arrived a few days later in a USPS flat-rate envelope, and the larger packet of papers to be filled out arrived later in a manila envelope. Waiting the second time, with youngest DS, is no easier :(. I got a big chuckle at the idea of giving up stalking the mailbox for Lent, but DS was not amused when I shared the idea with him! Glad we're all hanging in together - best of luck to everyone!

The BFE doesn't even fit in the mailbox because its in a hard folder. My heart jumped out if my skin when I saw the mailman walk to the door the day my DS got his!!

MOC phone call

I'm a little worried about getting the BFE, because last year a guy from my school was appointed to West Point and he got a call from the same MOC who nominated me this year. There's always the chance the MOC wouldn't do it for me though.

I wouldn't worry. I only learned of my appointment to USMA through my BFE showing up, while another person who was appointed in the same district as me got a call from the MOC that I was also nominated from.
