Still in the game

Well aren't they mailing out APPOINTMENTS as well??!!

God I sure hope they're still mailing appointments! When I saw that tweet my heart dropped.

As I'm typing this my husband sent me a text saying there was no mail again today.

This morning when my DS came downstairs to leave for school he was wearing a USNA shirt he got during Summer Seminar. Looking at him brought tears to my eyes - not sure why but the water works started flowing, which is completely out of character for me. DS gave me a big hug and told me it's out of our hands and not to worry; everything would work out the way it has been planned for him. He kissed me on the cheek and was out the door. Oh how I love that boy!

Brings tears to my eyes, too! I know how you feel-everyday he wore a Navy or summer seminar shirt until he got the BFE I got a lump in my throat. They have all worked so hard and have such a mighty goal. At least the kids all seem to be taking the stress in stride-good trait in a future officer.

Smmtx1 my DS wears his NASS clothes all the time and I know exactly how you feel. He would love to be able to trade it in for a shirt with NAVY across the front in big letters.

Don't give up the ship!

We got word from a BGO last week that DS's file had not even been before the board yet (other than preliminary 3Q screening in the fall), and that decisions for SC wouldn't be finalized until all of the SC applicants who were qualified and had a nom were looked at. So...that tells me that while some states/regions might be winding down, others have yet to be determined. We are all getting desperate for news, but we have to let it play out without reading too much into a random post!
No USNA mail here today...hang in there - this thread continues to be a lifeline :)

I wanted to pass on a helpful hint to enhance your mailbox stalking and endless waiting for the MOC phone call. Go to I-Tunes and download ANCHORS AWAY, It's under classic college fight songs. Then make it your alarm ringtone and you can start everyday the Navy way. It is quite inspirational but your significant other will go insane, especially if you hit snooze a few times. I am a Navy veteran so i never got tired of hearing it.

Right now, I think it's all about slotting to make sure all of Admission's bases are covered.

My (somewhat educated) guess is that in many if not most Congressional districts TWE's have already been mailed to 50% or more of the nominees.

I seriously doubt that most of those folks would be posting their receipt of TWE's on this forum as they have no reason to and have moved on to Plan B.

This doesn't mean that more TWE's aren't coming. However, it does mean that the candidate/nominee pool continues to shrink.

As for those declining appointments with others hopefully being given their slots: Please keep in mind that in a typical year approximately 1,500 appointments are offered and only 1,200 are accepted. In most cases, declined appointments are not re-slotted and are just figured into the 20% of appointments that are declined unless the declining individual was a principal nominee.

Admissions has been selecting appointees for many, many years. The procedure is a bit of a mystery and definitely more of an art than a science.

Good rule of thumb: The Academy is looking for bright, fairly high performing, athletic individuals with proven leadership skills who are successfully active in many activities both in and out of school - proving some degree of time management skills.

For potential candidates for the Class of 2019: Yes, attendance at NASS can definitely help you if you perform well while on the Yard.

My son does this too, and got a military cut. When I asked him about this, he said, "dress for the job you want"

Thank you all for sharing your stories, it does lift my spirits!

Hang in there! Precious, teary, angst filled moments still to come. What is always present is the firm knowledge that we have raised some fine kids that will make a difference in the future.

BFE from University of San Diego today, other than that it was bills.

I mentioned this on another thread, but this is also something to consider...

Many colleges including the Ivies don't release their financial aid/scholarship packages until after April 1. I am sure there are many candidates sitting on Appointments and are waiting until those notices come out from other schools they applied to. Once those notices are released from various colleges, I believe you will see a lot more activity with some folks declining/accepting else where, or submitting their acceptance paperwork.

Remember, Appointees have until May 1 to accept or decline. Many will use every bit of that time to decide, especially if there are other offers out there that they are considering.

DH says he's afraid he needs it to play TAPS instead :frown:

(we are still waiting....)

The stress of all this waiting is killing me, especially after I email my admissions counselor and all he had to say was " I was anxious when I applied too, you should know any day between now and April 15" :yllol: But the one thing that keeps me going is knowing that at this point the candidate pool is only shrinking each day, and so far I'm still afloat.

Still Nothing

It's official...NOTHING of interest in the mail today. Southern California gets to stay on the island another day!

While I don't disagree with this assessment, why then aren't more TWEs already out. What then are all of us waiting for? NWL?
