Still in the game

My DS is a reapplicant and I was on this forum last year as well. I cannot tell you the amount of comfort I have found this year. Thank you Prepswimmom! When we received the TWe last year it sent shock waves throught our family and friends, we were devastated and had a very difficult time moving forward. So, for those of you who have received the TWE's I want to personally tell you I know exactly how you are feeling!!!!! However, I do want to also tell you, IT DOES get better!! Soon your DS/DD will be enjoying their end of the year senior activities, signing up for rommates and shopping for their dorm room. For htose of you who reapply, all I can say is enjoy your summer!! It does NOT get any easier the 2nd time around and it is another year of the emotional rollercoaster. Although we are 'still in the game" I too believe this week will be very telling for most of us!! Just wanted to say thank you to all for sharing, I will continue to follow all of you. There is only one thing I know for sure, I have probably hit this forum 20,000 times and thus a proud contributor to the 100K..
Best Wishes to all, God Bless you and your DS/DD

We just got TWE and DS also wants to re-apply but he has a few questions.

When you reapply from college...do you send in your high school transcript and your college transcript or just your first semester college grades?

Do you need to retake the ACT/SATs and redo your DODMERB physical too?
The instructions for candidates document isn't very clear on this.

Thanks for any help - and good luck, keeping fingers crossed everyone still left gets good news next week.

Sorry lcdrmom....lots of the TWE disease going around this weekend.

DODMERB is good for 2 years so your DS will not need to redo medical. I know that reapps aren't looked at until their first semester grades are done, but I don't know the specifics.

Pmooney, I agree that reapplicants must enjoy their summer, but also must do something productive to help their application. Something to make them standout for their second application.

lcdrmom,
1. Yes they will ask for your high school transcripts, but also your first semester college transcripts. I saw on here that a strong college transcript in plebe courses can outweigh any deficiencies in your DS/DD's high school transcripts.

2. I recommend retaking both tests to get better scores, but the academy will still use your best scores, even if they were in high school. Your DoDMERB will hold for one more year.

Thanks to so many here for so many thoughtful, beautifully worded posts. Too many to name! The TWE's are just heartbreaking.

Thanks, too, USNA1985, for stepping in and being a voice of both sympathetic understanding and hopeful perspective.

No news yet up here in MA with prepswimmom, but of course we wonder if next week will bring word. I think now we really just want to know one way or the other; there are so many moving parts, with ROTC and college acceptances, that we'd like to see them all begin to settle into place.

insane mom

I too am new to the posting crew. I kind of feel like I know all of you personally because I read these forums like they are my new hobby:) So sorry to hear of all the twe's the last few days. I know in my heart that every person on here will make this planet a better place no matter where their life path takes them. We here in Missouri are still waiting and haven't heard of hardly any others from here so maybe that is good, who knows. At this point in the game kind of numb from the whole thing I think. Good luck to all who is left in the running!!

Pmooney, did your DS get a BFE this time around? Or are you still waiting?

Something to keep in mind:

If this year is like the last few years, what you are seeing now is part of the trim down to candidates for the National Pool and NAPS.

In the next couple of weeks, Admissions will first be determining who gets appointments from the National Pool and then selecting candidates from the non-appointed National Pool for selection to the remaining slots at NAPS.

Not trying to build false hopes here; but from practical experience I can tell you that appointments can come as late as April 15 and rarely some time later for the VERY few that make it in from the wait list.

Expect the first part of next week to be as bad as late last week for some candidates as the big sort-out continues.

My heart aches for you all...

Since I have been an avid reader of this thread, I feel as though I need to jump in here now. When the thread first began, I was one of you..."still in the game" and waiting. Three weeks ago, we left the "game", as my son received an Offer of Appointment. Of course we were excited beyond words and still find ourselves with moments of "did that really happen?" But....

I wanted you all to know that I NEVER left you. I have followed ALL of your posts EVERY day. I have kept my husband and son up to date with all of the news, both good and sad. When I got home last evening and read the heartbreaking news so many received, my eyes filled with tears. I cried with you. My heart aches for you. And, I'm still cheering you ALL on; those "still in the game" and those who are now in a different one!

We were ALL in this together and even though we will travel different paths...some on the same and others not...we STILL are ALL in this together.

I pray for God's guidance and peace to be upon each and every life!
And as the song from "Wicked" goes, "I am better from having known YOU!"

Hopeful_Midshipman..

Cannot agree with you anymore. Do whatever you can to shine brighter or stand out..It wouldn't hurt to inquire where the candidate fell short, BGO or Admissions can help with this. Unfortunately, there are many, many (3 Q'd) qualified candidates with a Nom who simply do not get in and thus you have to make peace with it. There are just so many slots and lots of great candidates! Proud to have a son amongst one of them!

Once again Bubalma your insight is very much appreciated. I am dreading next week.

So sad to hear all the bad news from so many. My prayers go out to all of you that received bad news. Prayers for your hurt and disappointment and prayers to carry on, where ever that may be. May God bless your path!

Still in it here in SWVa with a heavy heart.

Praying for Will....Navy football player hurt in spring practice.

Having just read about Navy football player Will McKamey certainly puts all our angst into perspective. Having healthy children certainly outweighs any bad news that could come out of Annapolis. Prayers to Will and his family.

Heartbroken for the recipients of TWEs. Saturday's mail brought a BFE from Plan D school. DS is "still in the game." I have delegated tomorrow's mail retrieval -- a little nauseous just thinking about it. Blessings to all!

I decided to take a break from the thread for the last couple of days. DS's mentor and favorite teacher died in a car wreck right after being with DS and several other students Friday afternoon. "Mr. C" (as they call him) wrote one of DS's rec. letters for the academy. He was only 49. We are leaving for the visitation in a few minutes.

We did not get a TWE or BFE Friday or Saturday. I am heartbroken for so many who have reported of TWE's the past 2 days. I am also encouraged somewhat for you as well. If DS is going to get one, I'm ready and he is ready to take the medicine and start to recover. His plan B is full scholarship and he loves the school. Each of you now can begin to focus on finalizing your other plans. For that, I am encouraged.

(At the same time.....I'm a little down.) See y'all tomorrow.
