Summer Seminar Acceptance

Usually, you would choose your session from your summer seminar app page.

2012cadet, unless things changed from last year, you should have received an e-mail with a link to the status page where you could accept and choose the session you want. Maybe you went straight to your status page and just happened to see the offer without seeing the e-mail first. Or maybe one of your parents opened the e-mail or it went in your spam folder? If you are concerned that your acceptance is really valid, call the AFA and verify. But my guess is its fine.

You're going to start seeing more summer seminar acceptances in short order, soon. The AFA folks are back at work, and they're holding boards almost daily. There are a LOT of applicants to go through, and the AFA is asking ALO's to comment on their candidates so expect some delays while that process occurs.

But it's going to ramp up pretty quickly.

I applied to USAFA Summer Seminar on Jan 30th. A day or two later my status changed to (your application is under consideration). Since then I have updated a couple of things on the application; volunteer work I did last summer and more detail regarding my Eagle Scout Leadership project. Will anyone see these updates? What is the typical wait time to get an acceptance to SS? I am also concerned that my athletic achievements section on the profile of the application looks sparse. However, I am very athletic, but have been heavily involved with the Marching Band and AFJROTC which hasn't left much time for team sports. I like to run and used to run cross-country in middle school and did well, so I just joined my school's track and field team and plan to run with the cross-country team in the fall. Do you think I should go back into the application and update my profile to indicate this?

I also applied to West Point and the Naval Academy summer seminars on Friday, Feb 3rd and received a written mailed acceptance from West Point on Saturday, Feb 5th. I was really surprised to get it so quickly. My true hope is to go to the USAFA SS. My ALO advised me to apply to all of three, because attendance to any one of them will be an indication of my interest, motivation and desire to develop leadership qualities.

I appreciate your thoughts and help with my questions.
Thank you.

How long does it take for under consideration to accepted? Have they done FL yet?

I'm sort of in your boat. I have also been accepted to USMA's SLS, and am waiting on USAFA. I would certainly go back and update your profile if you have any new information to place on it. Anything substantial makes it look even better! I talked to my ALO and he told me that he would be putting a bit about me sometime this week, which would incite USAFA to look at my application again. I would advise you to do the same, and contact your ALO to get to know you and write a little about you and your potential on your app. I'm from PA, however, and still have not heard. Good luck to you!

how does one go about contacting his ALO? Im from Washington 8th congressional district.

There should be a section on your summer seminar application. His/her name would be under the "Local Liason" category. Or,you could go to the academy admissions website, and there is a look up tool under "prospective". :thumb:

which session

I am going to session 1! I'm pretty excited. Anyone else going to that session?

Congrats to everyone getting accepted, although I don't see the point in celebrating. Isn't going to the summer seminar just to see if the Academy is right for you or not?

That's the main reason why I'm going there. Not to have fun (Although I would like to) its to check out how the place is like and to see what kind of skill and talents they require.

I spoke with one of the "individuals" that makes the selections and he said they're all reviewing every app...to make certain they choose wisely.

It'll take some time; AFA is NOT as fast as USMA in some instances...patience is required with USAFA in ALL things!

Trust me, I'm as anxious as you; I have 5 more candidates waiting to hear about summer seminar...

Thanks for posting and supporting this effort. My daughter was able to contact her local liason officer. It helps these motivated young people to have a conversation with someone who is invested in the process. Gather some ideas other than the unchanged status that is glaring at you on the page. Hoping and praying all of our GA applicants make it!!!

I have a question: I had more to add to my application and added it a few minutes ago. Does this mean the selection committee will review my application again soon? Or do they go through the applications by geographical area? I have been "under consideration" since mid-January.

I've been "Under Consideration" since probably the beginning of January, and I applied December 1st. I'm starting to get a little angry that they haven't said anything yet, whether it be that I got in or that I got rejected. I asked my ALO to look into it, but nothing has changed yet =/

Get over it, that's just the way it goes. Know that the people who are reviewing applications don't just do that all day. That is their secondary job.

I understand that, but I should have definately heard SOMTHING since then. Some people have applied and were accepted within a week, most people waited 2-3 weeks to a month. I have waited 2 and a half months, and a lot of people have been accepted that applied MUCH later than me. I just want to know either way, because that directly affects my next course of action.

BTW anyone know when they finish accepting people? Is it a date or is it just when they fill up all the slots?

Honestly, here's my advice. Get used to it. Trust me, this is the easy part. It's very possible that you will finish your application in September or October and you won't hear ANYTHING until March. That's 6 months of waiting for something that will "affect your next course of action." So learn to occupy your time. You can't do anything about the way they work.

Hope you get accepted, I heard theres around 30-40 slots for each one excluding session C.

I've been waiting for a month and my application page still says "application submitted" and that USAFA hasn't even looked at it yet. what's up with that? Is anybody else still stuck on that? It seems to me that these slots are running out quick. . .
