Third AFROTC Scholarship Board Cancelled

If we don't hear by the last week in April, my DS will be going with his Plan B which is the in-state school and living at home. There is no other way for us to afford it without parent and student loans, which we won't do. If he isn't awarded a scholarship, this is also Plan B. While the waiting is hard, we have figured out our plan to respond whichever way things may be.

Hoping its by April 15th, that's the deadline to make a decision on the Falcon Scholarship for USAFA.

Willing to bet it won't be out until next week, it's really anyone's guess without the PGL.

How is it a known fact there is no PGL? I agree with you @xray328 im just curious how everyone has this inside information. When I talked to my rotc person all he said was he’ll know the same time I know.

An AFROTC CO told me directly. He also said “could be mid to late April

anyone hear anything?
Just saw this in DS's portal today. He met the 2nd board and was originally told results would come out on 30 March:

Welcome XXXXX, your scholarship application status is "Eligible".Your AFROTC Scholarship interview has been received and processed. Your application will meet the next available selection board, scheduled February 22. Results will be released on or about April 13. You can check back here to view the results. We will also mail you a notification letter explaining whether or not you've been offered a scholarship.

********************************************************************************************
PLEASE NOTE:
Board results have been delayed with a new projected release of 13 Apr 2021. Please do not contact us regarding the results. We are working diligently to get the results finalized and will release them as soon as possible. Applicants will receive notification via e-mail upon release of the results. We appreciate your patience and understanding in this matter.

Same here. I'm just worried, as I'm trying to get all my ducks in a row (USFAFA and the scholarship) and I'm still having to hold off on that.

Absolutely unacceptable for a government organization to perform this sloppily. The last-minute, haphazard delays are completely unprofessional and dishonest. We will be filing a complaint with the Air Force Inspector General.
As a taxpayer, you should be pleased with it. As a parent or applicant, I share the frustration. But this is an example of the government trying to get it right at the outset by not wasting its own time, effort, and -- most importantly -- money. At least they didn't wait until 430p this time to post the delay.

The PPT Franknd linked to, above, explains why they have canceled the third AFROTC board are delaying the second board until 13 April.

In short, ROTC is awaiting the Air Force's revised Program Guidance Memorandum to tell them how many scholarships to award in total given that fewer officers are leaving active duty during the COVID crisis. But this will have an accordion effect -- meaning future junior company grade officer shortfalls --if/when the economy and jobs markets fully rebounds and those who have met their initial 5-10 year hitch punch out. Also, those who do commission in 2025 may have less competition to early-promote (below the zone) or promote on-time to Major...the first real officer weed-out round.

The other potential good news to those remaining in the second board is that the program will have more money to spend on fewer scholarships, which means they may be more likely to offer awardees the Type 1 (all tuition/fees) and/or Type 2 (limited to $18K) scholarships, rather than Type 7 (limited to public school in-state tuition/fees). That scholarship money is programmed...so in the government's "sloppy" accounting system, if you don't spend it all this year, you must not have needed it next year's Congressional budget analysis. Now I am sure they can simply reprogram the unspent funds on other aspects of the recruiting program, but they may decide to increase the stature of their cadets' schools by offering the more generous scholarships to more awardees.
