I have completed my application, except for my CFA.

Two quick questions: 1. are most LOAs given in October, or is there still hope in Nov, etc. 2. How do my stats below look in terms of admission. I must say I am very intimidated whenever I read some student's SAT/extra curricular involvement on the forums. Do mine seem at least top 50% of potential admission? In other words, am I decently competitive? I really appreciate everyone's feedback, I am new to these forums.

    1. Welcome to the Forum. This is a great source to find answers to your questions. Look back at last year around this time or later to get a good idea of what awaits you. This year's admissions process should be similar to last years.
    2. Unless you are a recruited athlete or absolutely walk on water (which your scores don't support) forget about a LOA. Very few LOA's are sent out by USAFA.
    3. Work to get every single point you can for your application. There is a December 1 and January 26 SAT to get a higher score on your CR which is on the low side. Unless things have changed this year, USAFA doesn't count your Writing score. Search the Forum for superscoring if you aren't familar with the term. USAFA uses it and it may help you when considering strategies for taking the SAT again.
    4. Your goal should be to max your CFA. Your CFA may be the last thing that you can really impact at this point.
    5. Don't put all your eggs in one basket. Work aggressivley on a Plan B and a Plan C.
    6. Lastly, know with confidence that you have an impressive high school resume. Nicely done.

    LOA

    Hi
I can only answer for the LOA. I was told they are just starting to go out for the USAFA. So I expect those that are getting one will know soon.
    Regards

LOA as previously posted are mainly for athletes. They go to the board for review, usually each week, so the LOA's generally are rolling.

Don't look for an LOA unless you happen to be a recruited athlete or as said above, you walk on water.

Whether you have one or not will not matter one whit the first day of BCT!

In the meantime, can you get that CR score up just a notch?

    @blackbird @fencersmother

    I didn't know a 630 CR was considered "low"

I also have taken my SATs 3 times already

the 2012 demographic profile said that the mean score for CR was 642 and math was 663. 642+ 663 = 1305, mine is a 1380. if my math is 750 shouldn't that over take my 630 CR? Thanks so much!

Forget "the means" that you read.

Realize that those also include the numbers of the "barely qualified SAT/ACT score but smoked everything else and received a Principal appointment" as well as "barely qualified but highly recruited athlete" as well as everyone else.

I'm not "slamming" folks, although it might sound that way, but I see this every year as an ALO. In the last 3 years, my MOC's "Principal" has NOT been the highest scoring person, rather the "best overall" person.

LOA's...forget them. In all the briefings I've had this year, USAFA/RR has repeatedly said they are really not planning on more than a literal handful of LOA's for non-athletes. The class will just be too small.

So...focus on the entire package, keep "Plan B" alive and well, and enjoy the ride!!!

Pretty sure they look at the scores individually. Not sure Math can overcome Critical Reading as the two are not really related. Is the 630 your highest score on all of the tests for CR? Your Math score is outstanding. Last year my DS got in with a 1370 between to two. It just depends on who your up against this year. You can only use the averages as a reference, not a goal. Your goal should be to have the highest scores possible in all areas of the application. Together it combines into the WCS-based on the whole person concept. I am sure if you search through some of the older threads you can find more information. They basically look at GPA, SAT/ACT, ECA's and CFA scores from this they come up with the WCS and then they rack and stack you based on your score. So, people are trying to help you by showing you where you can increase your WCS. GPA, ECA's and CFA(once completed) usually don't change. Do update them if they change for the better!

@kdc246 thanks a lot for the feedback. 630 is my highest score. I'm taking my CFA next Monday so I'm going to try to do real well on that. I can run a mile in 5 minutes, 65 pushups, 80+ situps, 12 pull ups, however my basketball throw is less than 60ft

@flieger83 thanks so much. I will try my best on my CFA next Monday and try my best to smoke the rest!

However, I am very worried about a congressional nomination. I have applied to all in my area, but I dont understand exactly how they work. Is there only 1 per congressmen? Thanks

As mentioned in other threads, TAKE THE ACT! Don't assume the ACT test and SAT test will put you in the same percentile.

If your ACT or SAT score was higher, you look really solid.

Apply to the congressman for the district in which you live. If you don't know who that is, go to http://house.gov/ and enter your zip code in the find your representative box. Click on the congressman's name and you should get to their website. Most congressmen have nomination info somewhere on their website. Follow those instructions and direct questions to the contact persons listed on the site.

Also apply to your state senators (Use http://www.senate.gov/ to find them).

Make sure to also apply to the Vice-President (http://www.whitehouse.gov/administration/vice-president-biden/academy-nominations) as well.

If you qualify, you can also apply for other nominations. For military nominations see http://www.academyadmissions.com/admissions/the-application-process/nominations/#Military_Affiliated. Best wishes. :thumb:
