USNA 2025 Waiting and....Waiting

Seriously impressed by the attitudes of those who have gotten TWEs so far. Don’t know if I’d be able to keep my chin as high as you guys have. Just a little side note to you guys before I find out what my own fate is: Regardless of how we get there, I am excited to serve as an officer beside each and every single one of you. This process has been tough, especially this year, and whatever route we end up taking and whatever branch we end up joining, it will be the honor of my life to serve among you. You guys give me hope in our generation.
The rejections keep coming in.. DS has a no for AFROTC and the Naval Academy. All he wants to do is serve, as it sounds like you do as well. He will get there, as you will, He would be honored to serve with you

My DS has had a good and bad day today. He got the dreaded USNA TWE email this afternoon, but he received word that he has been awarded an AFROTC scholarship this morning! That has definitely blunted the sting of the TWE! His plan 2A is awesome! He will attend Virginia Tech for Engineering and do Corps of Cadets with, most likely, his AROTC scholarship he got in the 1st Board in October. Now only waiting for final word from USAFA and he can move forward.
So happy for you! Congrats!

My son got the TWE from Navy today.
He started attending West Point info meetings twice a year beginning his freshman year as well as the Congressional/Senate service academy presentations.
He attended the Navy summer seminar after his junior year, and was all in after that.
Graduated last spring with rejections from West Point and Navy.
Enrolled in the State university, travelled to another state to take his 3rd SAT.
Resubmitted apps to Army, Navy, and AF this year.
Covid college just like pretty much everywhere (terrible). Took tough classes, and did well.
West Point TWE in Feb.
He was pretty resigned to his fate when March came and went.
Then he got an email from AF asking him to check his portal. LOA from AF!?! Honestly, not on his radar at all (no pun).
Everyone is so happy for his acceptance letter. Today's 2nd rejection from Navy stings a bit, but I think he feels a little relief at not being asked to make a decision. He is all in, and I could not be more proud or happy for him.
Keep at it.
Congrats to your son on USAFA. I have two recent SA grads. Our oldest was waitlisted for USNA in a year when no one came off the waitlist. He had an acceptance to USAFA but it truly was not what he wanted at the time. He did moveout to Colorado Springs, loved his experience there and made life long friends. He is now a C17 pilot.

I want to thank everyone on this forum! as a mom, with her first son, going off into the world wanting to serve his country, and me being on pins and needles waiting... This forum has helped so much. He did not get his AFROTC or the Naval Academy. I cant tell you how sad this news is. My DS will get there, God willing,.

Thanks to all of you for your support.

Thank you! So sorry to hear that things didn't pan out for your DS. Does he have a good Plan 2A/B in place? Even without an ROTC scholarship he can join ROTC at college. Many schools offer campus-based ROTC scholarships once he gets there and shows them he is committed to the ROTC program.
Yes, Plan B is pretty awesome! He has been accepted to Embry Riddles Aeronautical University where they gave him their highest scholarship. He is already checked in for their detachment. fingers crossed they will approve his waiver request through DoD.. bad news is we have to wait ( so they tell him) till he actually gets to school to find out if the ROTC will give him the waivers..
Thank you for the reply.

I also got a TWE, my university doesn't have a NROTC unit so I'm going to put the whole military career dreams away for the time being. It's been a blast going through this process and I wish the best to everyone else still waiting for an answer.
I'd encourage you to look at AFROTC or AROTC (if your school has that) or PLC. If not, look at OCS. If not, enlist and apply to OCS after. If you wanted to fly check out WOFT. Obviously, if you don't want to do some of these I wouldn't blame you, but don't use this rejection/no NROTC unit as an excuse to give up if that's really your dream. Not trying to be critical at all; where there's a will there's a way.

@krabbypatty, I did a stint in the Naval Recruiting Command working in the Officer Programs Office back when. The universities where we recruited did not have NROTC. Many college graduates came through our satellite office and eventually went to Officer Candidate School and earned a commission. The Navy will always need good people. Do well in your undergraduate studies, and if the desire to serve still burns, consider coming back to the sea service in the future. Good luck to you.

@krabbypatty You never know what the future holds...my brother went to Navy Officer Candidate School AFTER college and he was out of Med school where he got his MD and PhD. He was doing a fellowship at NIH and had to come to Annapolis for business and was inspired but what he saw and wanted to join the Navy. He went on to become a flight surgeon with the Navy and had a wonderful career. He’s now in private practice. And now, because of him, that my own son is now a USNA candidate and waiting on a decision. So you never know what the future holds. Wishing you all the best with your very bright future!

I'm sure he will look into it, but not sure of the process. What is a Programmer?
That’s where they join NROTC without having a scholarship. If your DS wants to find out more, good info is online or I can always PM some email addresses... We’ve been very impressed with the folks we have worked with so far! Good luck 🍀!

Well our DS’s TWE came today too. Heart is broken for our DS who felt like USNA was where he was supposed to be next year! That said, I know he will lick his wounds, rebound quickly and move forward with excitement to his Plan B. Love this quote ~
“Resilience is a muscle. It gets stronger every time we have to push through disappointment. In my experience, grit and resilience are the MOST important attributes to success. Take risks and accept failure as a lesson that will make you better next time.”

Love that quote. Thank you for sharing. Just saved it to keep it on standby (just in case) as wait. All the best to your son.

I love this statement. Sorry about the TWE. Our plebe is dealing with some stuff at USNA and resilience will be needed big time. I like the sentiment.

About 15 Hours Left until I will know one way or another. My Plan A- is International Relations at American University in DC and doing crosstown AFROTC at Howard. I don’t want to do this plan, I want yo go to USNA. Either way at the end of the day I’ll know!
