USNA Class of 2028 Waiting and Speculating

Turned down just now.
Moving forward with plan B, full ride to GWU with NROTC (I DID get a tier 3 major, for anyone who saw my old post!)

Go Navy beat Army!! ⚓
Congrats on GWU, my mid is there. You wrote "full ride," but do you mean "full tuition?" NROTC doesn't pay housing & meals, and GWU doesn't discount those for NROTC students. GWU discounts housing for STEM majors, whether ROTC or not. (Students who receive Pell Grants can use toward housing.)

I'll give you my perspective. I've gotten 9 noms in 3 years. Was waitlisted and turned down with 5 last year. First question at each nomination interview was "how are you not there right now?" I've gone to the April 15 deadline 3 times. Rated top 5 percent by my BGO last cycle. Ranked 1 and 2 in my FITREPS in NROTC last year. I understand how it feels to get rejected, and I'm probably getting rejected my third year. I'm the opposite of lucky. Everyone says it doesn't matter, you're going to commission in 18 months, but no one understands what its actually like to get rejected by your dream school three times in a row, despite every person saying I should be in but admissions. I have been in an application cycle for 33 months. They told us April 15th, then the end of the week, what's the next promise they're going to make?
If there is anyone I would like to see to get an appointment, that is you ! It is just my personal feeling on your behalf --- how in the world, someone has spent three years -- end of nothing ! Trust me, my DS will never have this kind persistence and perseverance on any SA even a college. He can settle with a local state college or even a community college to move forward.

Certainly you become much stronger candidate after each cycle, and likely the strongest candidate in this cycle because you are indeed in NROTC program (based on your statement that you are 18 months away from commissioning).

While you are still pending, I am still hopeful ! But please don't think each rejection is same. It is same for you as a result, but for SA, it might be a different reason. It is purely my speculation -- this time, your strength in application might be your weakness in application. They see you as a midshipman almost ready to be commissioned --- they might not want to invest another 3 years on you and believe it is beneficial to you as well.

Just my speculation on possible TD --- but again I do hope you get in and because you have such a strong passion to attend USNA, and you are the strongest candidate in terms maturity and readiness.

Besides NAPS itself, what other preparatory programs does the Naval Academy have with other colleges, and how many usually go into those programs? (other than NAPS)
Just fyi- Most if not all of the partner schools are boarding high schools with post graduate programs. Classes there do not count for college credit.

NAPS is an active duty Navy school overseen by USNA. Attendees are given enlisted status. This also makes them eligible for nominations reserved for enlisted personnel.

Naval Academy Foundation prep school scholarships are funded and managed by the Naval Academy Alumni Assn, an independent non-profit organization. USNA Foundation suggests potential recipients to the Association, and they take it from there. USNA Foundation has relationships with several schools. Research their websites thoroughly to understand their programs, whether or not they offer college credit, etc.

From google search string “Naval Academy partner prep schools”:

You can search for “USNA Class Portrait Profile Class of 202_” to find out how many successfully complete the program and enter the next class. There is some attrition. Fill in a class year and you’ll see it.

I have read on this forum that the USNA gives the MOC 72 hours to make the phone call, so if a MOC calls asap then it may be 2 to 3 days before the portal changes??
This was our experience for DD. Her portal went to CPR early on a Wed AM, then she received an email from our MOCs staffer, and then it showed up in her portal on Friday or maybe Saturday

Somewhere I read they work 10-2 on Saturdays but now I can’t remember where.
Those might be "answer the phone" hours.
It was not unusual in either my military or much of my aerospace industry careers to be in
on Saturdays and the hours were rarely as structured (or short) as 10-2. At a very busy/crisis
time (like this is for Admissions), it would not be unusual for me to work 8AM -6PM or later.

Not Admissions related but perhaps an example. On USS Firstship, we were approaching
commissioning date and had to try to do crew drills and our regular work aboard ship in
parallel with the shipyard workers finishing the ship. Thus the ship officially shifted the
work day to be 2PM-10PM Mon-Fri for what was supposed to be a month. The first few days
we did work to that schedule but then the officers/chiefs and select others started getting
scheduled for meetings at noon, then 10AM and finally the leadership was coming in at 8AM and
leaving to go home at 11PM. It stayed that way for about 6 weeks.
Our scheduled hours were 2-10 M-F but the reality was a LOT more hours and we were mostly in
on Saturdays too but the hours were shorter.

Just called the Naval Academy, for whoever is still in pending status (Including me) we will find out most likely Monday at noon, their website is under maintenance they said. All decisions have been made pretty much, basically the website is not able to relay it on our end.
What better time to do maintenance on your website than right now🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
