USNA Principal Nominees Still Waiting?

I was informed of my Principal Nomination in early January. I am medically and physically qualified so I am just waiting for my file to be reviewed. I understand COVID and bad weather have had extreme impacts on the admission board's ability to review files efficiently. However, it seems they are over a month behind, and with only one month before the deadline, I am curious to see how things will shake out.

You are in about as good shape as you can be in without an LOA, along with others who are waiting. USNA sets its own deadline and typically says it will do its best to inform the majority of applicants of their status by that date. It’s not a guarantee.

Assuming they find you academically qualified, it’s a matter of waiting. Every year there are applicants with LOAs who got their applications done in early fall, meet all their LOA conditions, and they are still waiting.

The Board may already have reviewed your record for qualified or not qualified. It’s another group that sorts Noms and Appointments out and assembles the jigsaw puzzle that is the class.

As always, focus on what you can control, tend alternate plans, PT to relieve stress, be present in the here and now for family and friends.

Are you still waiting?
Our son doesn't know for sure, but thinks he is a principal nominee. He is still waiting. I completely agree with Capt MJ, by the way. Great advice as always on the process and the right mindset going through it. I was just wondering where PNs are in the process to gauge how far along admissions is. Everything is different this year -- this is our second son to go through the process and he heard his result in early February. Good luck to everyone who is waiting, including Moms and Dads, and lets all go out and get some PT to help the days pass a little more smoothly! Happy Tuesday!

I’m a principle nominee and am still waiting. I received notification for the principle nomination via MOC in early Feb.

Are there any principal nominees out there still waiting on an appointment to USNA?
Yes, our DS has been waiting, too. He's in the USNA medical waiver queue. Thankfully our gyms are open and we can usually redirect his anxiety towards working out, discussing Navy vs Air Force, playing guitar, studying for AP exams, or planning a graduation party in June.

Did not know SAF had an "autocorrect" feature, or that a phone would "autocorrect" the correct spelling of a word!

Learning every day. ;)

Still waiting on USNA but NROTC 4year scholarship at Cornel has been secured because DS got a letter from Cornel ahead of Ivy Day that he has been accepted. Plan B is a GO! And DS continues to work on Plan C.
Cornel or "Cornell"? Either way, congratulations to your DS. Go Navy! Good luck on the news for the Navel Academy;).

Hooah to @3rdinf. Cornell, Cornel, the Naval Academy, Navel Academy – it’s all hunky-dory! Genuinely happy for all of you. Sending only the best for continued success. Cheers.
That message was an emotional rollercoaster.. and I loved it.

All - how do you know if you are a principal nominee? Did your MOC tell you that, did it show up somewhere on a portal? Also, I was under the impression that not all MOCs/Senators use the principal/alternate nomination method and can instead submit an unranked slate of nominations. Is that correct?

Yes that’s correct. They can use whatever method they choose. And they can do it differently each year. It isnt Reflected in your portal. You would have to inquire, or look and see if they publish their method on their website. Most don’t publish.

You can read more about different methods on the Nominations forum. There are three methods: principal, ranked and unranked (competitive).

I have never really understand why the principal and ranked methods exist. Would it not be best for all MOCs to use the method of unranked so that the Academy itself chooses who they believe are the best fit? From what I have researched, the principal and ranked method to me sounds like the MOC essentially chooses who will receive an appointment and they could be looking for different standards than the Academy itself which doesn't make the most sense to me. Any insight would be great!
