For those who are interested in applying to VMI, here's some current info on new cadet recruiting that I received today from the VMI Alumni Association:
Keep these things in mind as you finish high school and begin working on your applications.
Good luck!

- Class of 1993 had 1000 applications; Class of 2016 had 2146 (good recruiting news)
- To transfer to VMI, you need a 3.4; high school GPA's average 3.5
- 53% in state and 47% out of state in Class of 2016 (current rats)
- 1158 average SAT/26 average ACT
- 36 states & 7 countries are represented in the Rat class including 4 from Mainland China and 5 from Taiwan
- Most popular majors in the Corps are Mechanical Engineering & International Studies
- Many local VMIAA chapters are hosting New Cadet Recruiting Dinners
- Out-of-state recruiting out of state is a focus. We are at 58%-42% in/out of state now and the goal is 55%-45%.
- 1664 cadets in barracks, a new record; higher than expected (typically, only half of admitted applicants actually matriculate, but it was higher than that this year)
- 167 females in the Corps
- Fewer ROTC scholarships are available, with war winding down
- 1288 of 1664 cadets play NCAA or Club sports
Keep these things in mind as you finish high school and begin working on your applications.
Good luck!
