Hey guys, Im making this post wondering what the graduates of West Point, or students at the school were hoping to do. What spec(cavalry, aviation, artillery, etc..) you want to be in, or after the 5 years, will you stay in active duty? Im only asking this to see what looks popular. I personally hope, that if I get in, I want to do either aviation, artillery, or some kind of engineering.

Military Police is my number 1
Military Intelligence is my number 2
and JAG is my number 3.

Granted those are subject to change. Right now the plan is to leave after five, but it's more a decision I'll for when the times comes. Ultimately I could see myself making it a career. It all depends on whether or not I find what I do in the military as being more personally rewarding than what I want to do in the "civilian" world.

Judge Advocate General -- Army speak for lawyer. And just so you know, it is not a choice of branch for cadets, since it requires law school...

HAHO and HALO are both great but I would recommend you stay away from HANO (that's high altitude no opening)! As for this old grad I chose Transportation Corps (did you know the truck driver was the most lethal MOS in the first Gulf War?). My first position was hovercraft platoon leader at Fort Story, VA (Virginia Beach, VA). Yes, it was as cool as it sounds and I even got to wear a flightsuit as we "flew" at 3 feet 8 inches. After that I went to Fort Bragg, NC and the real Army. My wife and I planned on staying for 20 but when the Army would't jointly assign us we left at 6 years. I'm still proudly living out the ideals of the academy and serving my country as a leader at one of the nation's leading transporation logistics organizations.

I plan on branching into light infantry, hopefully airborne. After I get a feel for being a butter bar I would then like to go to ranger school and then maybe the 75th rangers or something like that. It just depends on other factors. For example, Ive never been in a tank before, and if I absolutely loved that, then I would branch armor.

But my current plan in a perfect world

    Infantry->Airborne-> Ranger School-> Ranger Battalion

This is exactly the type of brutal stuff you want to keep to yourself...It's basically one of the top things you will get attention for and the cadre look for on facebook. The typical brutal "fresh out of high school I want to be a super delta ranger force guy and kick #$*" because of what they see in movies but have no idea what its really like.

Exactly why I don't list my name on this forum and why I don't say anything about it on facebook. Anyways, I don't want to be it cause of a movie or anything of the like, alright, let me get that straight. I have no such illusions. My reason for deciding to want this is because I like to challenge myself beyond my limits and like what I've heard about the lifestyle (not from movies, but from past Special Forces operators). If cadre want to PT me for this, then that's their problem. Selection will weed out those not motivated or have the bad reasons you stated...don't discourage others before they even think or think you know someone just cause of what they say on an Internet forum.

    TERROR OF THE AIR!!!

    edit:

no, but im all serious business too. I love the army lifestyle and wish to serve my country. my friends always laugh at me when i say i want to be in the army cause they say "its not call of duty", or "you're going to die". I know that and accept it.

Never did such a thing, just stated a fact about life here some people might be interested in knowing. Keep it to yourself does not equal give up a dream, it means don't go around blatantly telling everyone. It was a fair warning to be taken by the reader as they pleased. I am quite sure you will make the excellent special forces soldier one day and you know all you need to know to get there. Thanks for the life lesson.

    BeatNavy,

A little exaggerated, but that's the idea. lol :thumb:

    Just remember..

Getting into USMA makes you a leader, not a door kicking killing machine :shake:

    Focus on getting in first!

And make sure its really what you want before you take off on the journey.
