USNA Class of 2028 Waiting and Speculating

Ship’s schedule got moved to the left, and it’s cutting it pretty close… even if I get an appointment / NAPS offer I’m worried it’ll be too late that I won’t be able to make it work. I submitted everything in January in hopes this wouldn’t happen. At this point I’d have less than a month to get a replacement to the ship so I can leave, and if they don’t then I’d have to go underway & be unable to report to USNA/NAPS. I know this forum is mainly high schoolers but has else been in this position or have advice on what to do? Sponsor reached out to admissions multiple times & said I’d have a response by April 15. Just nervous with the timeline & how long it’d take to get orders out of here, check out, and be there in time before ship goes out that if I get accepted I may not be able to leave & have to decline the offer. If it’s a TD I’d at least like to know so myself and my command can stop stressing about how it’ll all work. Any advice would be greatly appreciated🙃😔
My sailor was told April 15

Thank you. Our DS has received the appointment in late march, has accepted it on the Portal. Although we have not received any physical official letter or PTR. So was trying to confirm when should we receive it.
BFEs usually take 2-8 weeks to receive in the mail. The PTR is digital and they will be notified by email when it is officially updated on their website in early May. I would definitely suggest taking a look at last year’s currently on the site and get started. Deadlines come fast and May is a busy time for seniors.

Can someone post a pic of your portal? DS says Pending Review Withdraw at the bottom. Is that where we should be looking for a change? Or should I be seeing something somewhere else?

Yes, but the mids do not get to “make a decision”. Majors are assigned to meet specific program numbers and not everyone gets what they wanted.
This is half right. You get exposed to what they offer and mids list in order of preference their request, as far as I know most get their first pick (my DD one of them) rarely ever someone ends with their last option and I never heard of USNA “impossing” a major or career path on the kids

Exactly. If you are expecting “love” from the Navy or Marine Corps, best to pivot to the Ivy. May want to skip the idea of the military altogether, for that matter.
Everyone has an ego, and that’s not a bad thing.
Ivie’s are selling themselves. Head of admissions sends a note, Commander of cadre emails and current mids send texts.
No call from MOC or note from area BGO. Hopefully both get in touch soon.
They are trying to sway him to NROTC.
Unlike you with your “skip the idea of the military altogether” statement.
My kid wants to serve and will be in the Fleet one way or the other!!
Go Navy and Go East Coast!!
🤣🇺🇸

Believe it or not, he says the civilian schools have shown more love and he wants to go where he’s wanted. If this offer came in a month ago, I think he’d have already committed to USNA.
Then why he didn't hit the withdraw button on the USNA page? What was the point of waiting?

Good luck to your son and whatever decision he makes! And congrats on the appointment!

My DS got his appointment mid-March and he hasn’t received the physical mailed appointment congratulations yet. He just uploaded the portal requirements and went to the courthouse to get the police report signed off etc.

Ego, as defined by "self" and "I" doesn't really jive well with the Officer Corps of our nation's military. So, as somebody that is prior enlisted, yeah it's kind of a "bad" thing for the military at large. Ivie's are businesses so of course they are going to wine and dine kids. You want Annapolis, you come and get it, no selling required. As the Marines were fond of saying many years ago, "We didn't promise you a rose garden".

Well said.

And if you don’t want Annapolis, there’s 14,000 other kids who would love that spot.

No doubt some are academically more suitable to Ivy, MIT, Stanford and some other top research universities. That is why Navy/Army have units at these colleges.

I know many kids who only applied to academies. Never even considered ROTC. They had their reasons, but it's not always about serving. The kids I admire most are the ones who put in the work and effort to complete all those applications. Those are the ones who REALLY want to serve. In the process of doing those applications they meet lots of folks. Hear their experiences. It's right and correct to be able to weigh ALL those options. Congrats, again, to everyone who has that opportunity.

I can't take a screen shot but ours says the same.....you are still pending ....which is a good thing.....keep checking email and spam as well as the portal.....if you see a change to CPR that is a good thing
