I think so, especially if you are close. Came down the night before & grabbed a late dinner in town. In morning, we arrived 45 mins before and could see everything. Hopefully it isn't too long . I moved around a couple times to get different view and pictures. DW & I found it fun and exciting to see. It was interesting to watch their teamwork evolve. I was able to get a great photo of my then Plebe with the cover on 1/2 the way up. Then an even better one shot as his skinny 6'3" frame was fully extended passing the cover up to another plebe above him that had a better route to the top.I realize Herndon Climb is an important tradition and a big milestone for Plebes. Is it worth attending for parents? Besides the climb is there other scheduled Plebe events that day? (I checked the website, but didn't find too much detail.)
YESHerndon climb is livestreamed on YouTube for those who can't attend in person, right?
Thanks ..you answered my question before I got to asking it...... Back in the day, Dining In's were somewhat raucous affairs. I know of a few Black N's awarded for superior performance in connection with Company Dining In's.... Not a Black N performance, but will always remember one of our underclass throwing up at the feet of one of my Classmates' dad, a Rear Admiral fighter pilot, in the middle of his speech. RADM Dad didn't even blink as we all sat there stunned. RADM Dad was one of the coolest officers I ever met !You also might see Dining Ins. The activities are more or less the same, but the guest list is different. For Dining Outs, people outside the command (i.e. significant others, spouses, friends... whoever you bring as your +1) are allowed to attend. Dining Ins are for command personnel only. While both can be a little irreverent, Dining Outs are typically a little more tame compared to Dining Ins.
Not anymore, unfortunately. Alcohol consumption and the after effects of irresponsible alcohol consumption were hot button issues during my time at USNA. You had to route chits for alcohol at Dining Out and stuff like that. Heck, I think there was even an SOP for them (like parading the beef had particular restrictions, if memory serves correctly). Thanks ..you answered my question before I got to asking it...... Does USNA still do NL Mess Nights ? I think it was 2nd Class year ....(I still have the wine and brandy snifter with USNA and Class Crest from 1984). That was an event we still talk about... they certainly served wine and brandy for toasts, then let us out on town liberty afterward.
All great things! He is finding his people and settling in to life post-plebe life! Congrats to him!A little update from my soon to be “plebe no more” - he is excited for Sea Trials, and just told us he may not be able to spend a lot of time with us after Herndon Climb because he has prior commitments with friends - good thing I’m not the one going anyways
Also, he asked for a small “stipend” to go on a short trip with some other mids right after finals and before the Herndon Climb.
It sounds like he is finally getting out of his shell and making friends.

Thank youAll great things! He is finding his people and settling in to life post-plebe life! Congrats to him!
Yeah between finals and sea trials (intersession??) my plebe brought 5 company friends to our house in SE PA to use as a HUB as they explored all Philly had to offer and made day trip to NJ Shore. We loved having them and they were loving their new freedom for a few days. I piled them in my mini van and got them back for Sea Trials. Not sure what the plans are for Youngster year (this May).A little update from my soon to be “plebe no more” - he is excited for Sea Trials, and just told us he may not be able to spend a lot of time with us after Herndon Climb because he has prior commitments with friends - good thing I’m not the one going anyways

Hi Sealion - my son wants MAGTF and has YPs 3rd block. Let me know if your DD wants to switch.Block 0-NAAA (whatever that it is),
Block 1- Stem Detail,
Block 2H-PROTRAMID San Diego,
Block 3-MAGTF WEST, which she wasn't supposed to get, so she's trying to get out of it. I'm not sure if that's possible.
I seem to recall cigars as well....Thanks ..you answered my question before I got to asking it...... Back in the day, Dining In's were somewhat raucous affairs. And use the trolley system to get around! For the Mids who have PROTRAMID in San Diego be sure to do a Google search for deals for active duty military at many of the popular San Diego tourist attractions.
They team up with roomates or friends and rent a storage unit or if the have a Sponsor family willing, many keep things there. We live across country from Annapolis, DD is wondering of best option for storing her items for the summer as she won't need them at home. Any suggestions would be helpful.
