CGAS appointment

kk21- how will this affect her NCAA eligibility? Will she only have 3 years remaining once she is at CGA? Was this a discussion item with the coach? I've always wondered how CGA works this out...perhaps the prepsters only practice during their prep year?

If a prepster is being sent to MMI or GMC as a CGAS, then they may participate in IC sports without using any eligibility. CGAS cadets are in the same catagory as students at NAPS, Army, or Air Force Prep.

Self-prep students, if they participate in IC sports, *do* use up a year of eligibility. I have a couple of softball players up at the academy who played at MMI, but only could play for three years at CGA.

Hi. It does not affect her NCAA eligibility. She will be able to play 4 years at CGA. Confirmed by CGA Coach. She can play at MMI as well.

FYI - I printed the USCGA Schlors prep handbook from last year and it was very helpful. Answered most of my questions.

My DS got a call from the football coach this past Saturday offering a CGAS Appointment, and made mention he would be sent to NAPS.

My DD s thats where I think my daughters coach is sending her

Oh really? They'd used NAPS for the first time in years and I heard they only sent male football and lax athletes last year. I've been hearing rumors that they may send females this year too. I wonder if it's true then, but my DD is not a recruited athlete. I wonder where she'd end up.

MMI is out of nowhere, extremely isolated from any fun activities or city life. You're basically stuck there to study and do well, which is your purpose anyway. Majority of kids end up there, so whether you like it or not, you're in it together. GMC is in a "college town" so there's more activities and some nice restaurants if you get sick of the school food. You may end up spending more money compared to MMI if you're not disciplined, but it can give you a break too. Compared to MMI, they don't have much help at GMC outside of class such as tutoring or office hours, and they traditionally only send about 10 kids there. They tend to be stronger in math and science, self- starters. It seems like they may take slightly more advanced math and science classes from rumors. NAPS as you know is the prep school for the Naval Academy kids. They just started using NAPS last year after some years of using only GMC and MMI. That's all I know, heard, and read. I just don't know what females they'll be sending to NAPS this year if they really are. I don't know much about NAPS but there are lots of posts about it here.
