CGAS appointment

@esteller1, I'm a little confused. Can you clarify? I've read many of your posts so far and it sounded like you were the student in some, but here you say it's your daughter. Are you the student or the mom?
How could you be confused? "My DD" is very clear.

Mom @ hoping2021. She gets on to see updates and I get on to get updates. I will put DD if it's me. She will be setting up her own.

Well, it definitely was confusing reading all the other posts going back and forth between DD and "I" until I got their explanation. They were sharing an account. Makes sense.

My DS accepted his CGAS appointment today and I have a question. What do you say when people ask you where your son is going to college next year? He's technically in the Coast Guard, but not at the Academy. Not sure what the correct verbiage is so people understand.

Congratulations!

"We are so proud - our son Sea Pup has been selected for the Coast Guard Scholars program for a year, and then he should be at the Coast Guard Academy to get his college degree and commission as an officer."

If they press you about CGAS - "Of course you know how competitive the Service Academies are. The Coast Guard Academy is so sure they wanted Sea Pup they are willing to wait, funding a prep school to ensure he has all the tools he needs to be successful there."

Congratulations! We say he's going to prep school for the Coast Guard Academy. We don't exactly know which school yet!

When I see my students tomorrow, I'm going to call all my Sea Service preps "Sea Pup":biglaugh::coo2l:

No matter what you will have to explain what CGAS is because it is very different than other SA prep school programs. You will find some people who knows about junior military colleges and think the pup is a self prepper. Most of the time when I explained it as being red shirted or given Blinn Team for TAMU BUT getting paid to be there, people got it. They were pretty impressed. Not many fullride scholarships awarded can touch the CGAS appointment benefits.

We did what Alaskan said above. And sometimes went on to explain as No1Fanof2 said.

DS received an email today stating that admissions planned on having all prep school assignments by April 15th.

Oooo we truly hope that's true! :D In the recent past, it seemed like it's always been the beginning of May. Before April 15th would be nice! Was the e-mail from your AO? Is everyone else getting that e-mail too, or was it a private correspondence?

Also, the calendar on USCGA website says the reporting day for CGAS is July 24th. Do you know if they changed it to the 17th for sure? Has anyone seen the revised handbook yet? It doesn't seem to be on the USCGA website still last time we checked.

The letter my DS received was from an AO. It was a private correspondence.

I read on the site for the three year calendar it was July 24th for orientation and report day. Hope that's correct

Yes, that's exactly what I thought. However, I've been hearing rumors that it might be 7/17, and now Alaskan said 7/17 too. I did hear that SWAB summer for the direct appointment folks was moved up a week for sure so maybe CGAS too. It seems like the calendar in their site had t been updated with correct dates.
