USCGA Class of 2024 Appointment Thread

DS has NOT rec'd his BFE. He did join the Facebook Group and is having fun "meeting" the Class of 2024. I enjoy having him read me the introductions. Lot's of Track and Cross Country so far!

Oh, Wait!!! You need a POLL? I don't have one for the arriving packages BUT here's one for all of the parents of those who are Accepting their Appointments:

When my DD/DS gets dropped off this Summer, I:

A) ....will cry endlessly for about a month.
B) ....won't be as sad as choice "A" BUT I will walk around their bedroom like a lost puppy, constantly picking up their belongings and reminiscing.
C) ....won't do either A or B but I will constantly refresh PDuddys photo posts for a single glimpse of my kid.
D) ....will miss them, for sure but this isn't my first rodeo. I am all good after the drop off.
E) ....will be like, "Later Tater! Get your stuff and out ya go! VACAY is calling my name and I am leaving on a jet plane!"
F).....have absolutely no idea because I don't know what happens, how it happens, when they leave or how I will react.

Me: I am D and E, combined. And, I'll do "C" while on Vacay. Gotta be honest - this mom is ready for a B.R.E.A.K. Just keeping it real! After sending my boys to Cape May (CG enlisted bootcamp) and then watching my DD go through the entire CGA app process? All I want is sunshine, wine and some sleep. I cannot be the only one who feels like this process and experience totally kicked my A**. :biglaugh:

I'm probs a Solid C.
I will however likely weep with pride during the R Day events that we are present for but it will not be sadness.

OH. FOR. SURE! When one of my boys was graduating Cape May, he was on the Drill Team that performs in front of the huge audience. He asked me to film him. So, I did. Unfortunately, I was SO proud of him and crying SO hard that when you watch the video, it is clear that I was a total mess. All you can see are his shoes, the sky, some other Coastie, a spinning rifle at some point, and back to his shoes. Bwahahahahha! The pride you will feel in so MANY moments will blow you away. It's the best.

Definitely B! But while holding my glass of wine, constantly refreshing photo posts on my phone, and wimpering...wishing I had gotten more hugs. :oops:
 
I'm a solid "D"...however my DW will be a serious closet "B" and stoic outward "C". We've been through it before, but there's a significant years gap between this one and the last one to go. I think some of this will all seem a little bit "new"???

The good news is that DS says he's really ready to go (maybe a little too much some times for us). But all that bravado sometimes disappears in the din of the cadre and the buzzing of the shears.

Now, I definitely WILL FALL APART when my last DS (current HS Sophomore) leaves. If there's anything more emotional than an "A", count me in on that one. He says he's a big no-go for an Academy at this point, but we think his mind will eventually change. Especially when he sees the experiences and great classmates of his bro.
 
I'm going to say "E" as I have gone down the rabbit hole of Roll Calls somewhere in Viking Cruises on cruisecritic, and learning all new acronyms on flyertalk! Plus have to get caught up on sports I know nothing about so I can cheer on Team USA at the 2020 Olympics. Working on my Black Belt and beyond....Sudoku! All this to mask A-D, F.
 
Definitely a solid A...as he's my oldest and only son. One reason of may why his sister (current HS junior) will not be coming for drop off. She is going to feel lost without him. However, I know that this experience is absolutely the BEST thing for him. While I will be sad (for myself), I will be cheering him on, as he is ready to report TODAY!
 
I will probably be a combination of B, C, and F. This is our first time and my oldest child. He will be across the country and only accessible by plane. I have already started tearing up at the star spangled banner and any service academy video. Tears of pride!
 
I hate to be old fashioned but I think how either the DW or DH will react is significantly impacted by the gender of the child you're are dropping off.
DS's are harder for Mom's and DD's are harder for Dad's. Single parents must have it VERY difficult!!!

I am sorry to tell you guys but it’s not gonna get easier. Drop of my DS in the airport on Friday and it felt the same as the first time we drop him off. 1/C May 20, 2020 graduation!

My hope is that I'll be even older and even more apt to forget how much I miss him each and every time.
