I’m currently a rising senior.
My stats:
3.8 unweighted gpa
NHS member(planning for leadership role)
CSHS member
Leader of Cyberpatriot team
Leader of Computer Science(Remind app) development team
I have not taken the SAT but got a 1100 on the practice(while also being super sick and unfocused)

I don’t have any sports under my belt due to participation in multiple honor societies and community service projects. I was planning to do sports(football/raiders) but seasons got cancelled.

I want to further improve my leadership and sports but Covid-19 has proven to be a real challenge.

You have good stats.
I WAS ALSO A CYBERPATRIOT LEADER THO WHATS UP!! I haven't really every found anyone else who did that program.
You say you want to focus on improving leadership and sports. I would say those are the two things you could focus on, but as you said COVID has thrown a wrench into that.

Which ROTC scholarship are you applying for? For Army, you'd probably be in great shape. For Air Force, you'd probably need to get that SAT score up a bit when you take it for real.

I should add that people can really only speculate over your chances. Unless someone here is literally on the review boards, nobody can give you a super accurate analysis. What people can say, though, is that your stats match with many people who have gotten scholarships.

If you seek an AFROTC scholarship, then join Civil Air Patrol. Give it your best effort. Ditto for Boys (or Girls) State the summer after Junior year.

Regardless of the branch, you need to boost your SAT score. Read, read, read. Read good stuff -- the old stuff, the works that have stood the test of time. If you need suggestions, start by reading the great old English writers of the late 19th century: Kipling's stories and novels, Arthur Conan Doyle, H.G. Wells, Oscar Wilde, Joseph Conrad, Robert Louis Stevenson. If you want to broaden yourself beyond the anglo-american world, read Tolstoy: War and Peace is astonishingly good, as is Hadji Murat.

Look up unfamiliar words, find synonyms for them, write them down in a notebook, and review what you've written every other day. The more you read, and the deeper and better the quality of what you read, the higher your Verbal section scores will be.

For your Math score, practice with Khan Academy. Good luck!

I plan to get a higher SAT score.....as I said, I was sick and very much only focusing on getting out of school and back home that day. I can probably get around the 1300 or above range

Take a practice test to prove it then. Sometimes you can surprise yourself on those practice tests (for better or for worse).

If Army- low. No sports, not much leadership. Thats 2 out of 3 catagories. You’ll be punished when you input into the system, at the interview and on the board.
No sports I know hurts but I’m a cyberpatriot team leader, remind app student develop team leader, JROTC NCO and squad leader. Is that enough leadership? Also, leadership is hard when elections for office aren’t even gonna happen due to covid and same applies for sports in my region. I’m also in a program that allows me to graduate with my advanced diploma and associates by the time I finish high school this coming summer. Mind giving any advice on how to improve because right now I’m at a bit of a roadblock due to covid restrictions ?

Showing leadership is easy in theory, hard in practice. People who create their own opps in the coming months will standout. Be sure to write about how this affected you and your response.

How about partnering with the local food bank for distribution. There are 1000x very successful applicants who've done this. (DS included. Though, I think he reconsidered his life choices when he saw the 4'x4'x4' pallet of semifrozen radishes be forklifted off the truck.).

If you pay a high powered college "consultant" they will tell you to do something like this. And you could have just spent the $ on food to donate. The ugly truth of college applications is there are very few audits. Don't lie, but levels of difficulty are hard for them to judge. So don't discount your own efforts.

thanks for the advice and I agree. Leadership, in theory, is easy, but to truly demonstrate it takes a lot of personal effort, persistence at times, and motivation.

You still have not stated which ROTC scholarship you are looking at. If you are looking at AFROTC you will need to hit that 1300. At your current score, I do not believe they would even allow you to set up an interview, which is mandatory to meet the selection board.

AFROTC will not look at anything from your senior yr., except for a new SAT/ACT and they only do best sitting, they will not superscore.
IE Covid or no Covid your package would not change since they only take into account everything up to the last day of school for your junior yr when it comes to AFROTC. Thus, the joining sports this yr would not impact you at all.

One thing to understand is that this might be your 1st rodeo, but it is not their 1st rodeo for any ROTC branch or college when it comes to selections. They are accustom to kids trying to "pump up" their ECs (sports, leaderships, volunteering, etc.) their senior yr. What they really want to see is a long term commitment to whatever you do from an EC perspective. They want to see you stick with it from start to finish, yr after yr. It also shows them that you have time management under your belt, because they want the strong academic profile while having those ECs.

Additionally you have not stated what your intended major will be. AFROTC gives out 80-85% of all their scholarships to tech (aka STEM). Unlike AROTC or NROTC, the scholarship is tied to the cadet, not the school. IOWS, HQ AFROTC could not care if 100% of cadets at 1 college are on scholarship, while at another school they have 0% on scholarship. It is a straight HQ national decision. They have X amount of scholarships to award, anybody that makes it, they get to take it wherever they want as long as the school accepts AFROTC.

I stated in another post I’m looking towards the AROTC scholarship and program

Review the posts by @Montana State Army ROTC. He goes over the ins and outs of the selection process and what to expect. The Board is looking for Leadership, Athletics and Academics. I would focus on getting your SAT to 1300+ to be competitive. Your GPA looks fine without knowing the rigors of your class selection. The lack of athletics may be an issue, but scholarships have been awarded to individuals without competitive sports. This will be a negative you your packet. I am not familiar with the Cyber Patriot program, but make sure you explain what it is if it will differentiate you. Good luck.

Honestly, I never did sports because I wasn’t physically fit at all a year or 2 ago, and I didn’t really take huge interest in ROTC until my junior year when I decided I wanted to be a computer science major in college. Otherwise, I’d definitely do sports and feel capable to do sports. However, my school cancelled sports for the year currently and no school organizations except SCA is allowed to convene this year. Covid-19 has posed a huge challenge, but not an impossible one I would hope.

I understand, but being physically fit and capable is a requirement for being an Army Officer. Whether you are in cyber security or not, you have to be physically fit and set the example. 3 legged stool with Athletics being one leg.

I ran a practice fitness test and here are my stats:
2 min pushups: 78
2 min curlups 111
2-mile run 13:02
Pull-ups: 16

ROFL
My hubby did AFROTC. He flew F15Es. We were college sweethearts. Married him shortly after he commissioned.
Everyone knows physical fitness for ADAF is carrying your golf clubs!

FFWD
Married 5 yrs and Hubby is jumping out of perfectly good airplanes with the 82nd.
He kisses me goodbye in the TLF at 5:30 a.m. stating he is going to go and do PT, but will be back by 7 a.m.
I acknowledge this. Bye.
My mind than starts racing. What is this acronym? PT? Huh?
~ No lie. Red Air V Blue. Got it! 4 V 4 Got it. TDY. PCS. TLA. Got them all. What is this PT?

Hope everyone smiles at that story!

Did you follow the exact PFA?
That means including rest times and in the proper order.

You may not like what I am about to read, but take it to heart.

I do not have enough fingers and toes for my entire family, including my pets regarding watching posters stats like yours that fail the 1st week at ROTC regarding the PT aspect.

My DS was a cadet PT instructor. They are going to look and count the proper form. FORM is key word here. 111 in 120 seconds seems off to me. for sit ups if it is the proper form. In essence you are doing 1 per second.

I say this only for the fact it can bite you when you arrive at your det. Same with if you are not following the limited rest time, or the proper order.
~ You can do 111, but if the elbows, knees, etc are not in the proper position you will be wasting your energy. That 1 you thought counted, didn't in their eyes, so now you are doing 2 for every 1. Your body will feel the exertion. That parlays into the next portion will be lower. Score will lowwer.

My rest time was 5 minutes in between.....in regards to sit-ups instead of curlups I can do about 77-81......all of these exercises were done with proper form thanks to the guidance of my JROTC instructor. Is there any way I can make up for not having sports? I feel at a great disadvantage without it and I’m an upcoming senior.

If I am correct there is no 5 minute rest time between portion, hence, the numbers you are posting are not true to the test.
~ I thought it was only 2 mins or so.
~~ 5 minutes is a huge rest time.

Follow the PFA to a T...order, rest time and form.

You cannot activate the scholarship if you bust the PFT.

I feel at a great disadvantage without it and I’m an upcoming senior.

To me if those scores are true, and your ECs are true too, I would not worry so much about the PFA.
I would worry about your SAT.
It is low.

I will retry my practice run of the test with a 2 minute rest time because that can make a huge difference. As for my SATs, I actually was looking at my sophomore year and not my junior year practice.....that test scored a 1250, is that a good score?
