Incoming AROTC MS1 researching my fin aid options. What months do I receive my $420 stipend? Classes start on August 24th and end on December 9th for the coming semester if that helps.
Also, are there set dates for when I receive my $420 stipend as well as the $600 book allowance?Incoming AROTC MS1 researching my fin aid options. What months do I receive my $420 stipend? Classes start on August 24th and end on December 9th for the coming semester if that helps.
I would be able to tell you the stipend amounts for NROTC, but that wouldn’t seem to be much help for you. It goes up as you advance years. $400 is the most you will earn monthly in NROTC as a senior in college. (Again NROTC) The stipend starts with $250 as a freshman.

I believe you will have to contract first, so the $420 stipend and book allowance will be paid sometime after that. I wouldn’t expect to have the money in time to purchase books for thIs semester.
Nice, not only did you give me useless info, but you managed to also not answer the question even if I were in NROTC .
I'm pulling your leg, don't take it too personally lol .

Sry I don't like the taste of crayons. At least I gave you the years you would be earning that amount! Thought I’d help you out, most men head to the Corps . I trust you’ll make the right decision.
Your ROO is wrong. The APFT is still required to contract with AROTCContracting Day 1 as my ROO said the APFT is currently waived until Battalion figures out what to do because of covid. I was more looking for what months of the year I'd receive the stipends (I technically start school in August and the semester ends in December, however they're not full months). Also was wondering about Winter Break period.
Nope, he pretty clearly said the 4-years MS1's are contracting Day 1, as the University is requiring tuition and room and board payments on Day 1. The only catch was the eventual APFT must be passed or tuition wouldn't be covered until I did. Maybe it's a 5th BDE thing, I'm not sure. Like I said, Battalion doesn't know exactly how we're even conducting the APFT since the school is located in a high covid-rate state.Your ROO is wrong. Hey, I’ve heard they taste better than salt water.Sry I don't like the taste of crayons.
I'll be on-campus, but just about every lecture is online. The exception the University is making is for STEM-major lab classes (as well as Military Science classes) to be in-person with strict guidelines. So will you be remote?

I've been told Battalion doesn't have a solid plan as to how to safely conduct the APFT. Like many universities this fall, mine running a hybrid model, in which we will be on campus with both in-person and online classes to facilitate proper safety measures, however, the majority of classes are online. Just because we are on campus does not mean one can assume we can safely do everything as normal, like the APFT. That's why I was told it would be waived at first and then would be officially conducted later. Then why wouldn’t they do the APFT if you will be on campus?
If you want to argue with an excellent and experienced ROO, then who am I to prevent you?Nope, he pretty clearly said the 4-years MS1's are contracting Day 1, as the University is requiring tuition and room and board payments on Day 1. Jeez Louise this is a perfect "don't shoot the messenger" scenario lol. @Montana State Army ROTC is awesome and has been super helpful throughout my time here on the forums and I thank him for all the great things he's done for the community. This is simply what I was told directly from my ROO. That's why I brought up the point that maybe being in 5th BDE could be a factor in why the two opinions from ROO's are differing. Not to mention that this COVID situation is affecting many factors in both the ROTC world and the University's world. Logically previous practices could be different for this year. Again, this is not me butting heads with Montana State. If you want to argue with an excellent and experienced ROO, then who am I to prevent you?
Trust me. Army is not going to pay for your tuition on day 1, but instead will pay month's later. If a college demands payment on day 1 then the normal past practice is that you pay it and are then re-imbursed when Army pays the college. If you don't contract by the end of the semester, Army does not pay and you are on the hook. I see no reason why Army would change this practice, COVID or not. I expect the ROO you spoke to was explaining this and you misunderstood.
In any case it's a moot point as it all comes out the same... you need to pass the APFT to contract 1st semester or you'll be on the hook for tuition.
