And the "news" reports lead with things like:

CNN said:
President Donald Trump announced early Friday that he and his wife both tested positive for the coronavirus, an extraordinary development coming months into a global pandemic and in the final stretch of his reelection campaign in which he has flouted experts' guidance on preventing the disease's spread.

CNN said:
...The President made the announcement on Twitter at nearly 1 a.m. ET on Friday and the development -- after months of debilitating losses, set against a badly mismanaged federal response overseen by a commander-in-chief who repeatedly downplayed the crisis -- threw fresh turmoil into the country's leadership at a moment of deep national strain...

CBS said:
...Although Pence is only 61, the next two officials in the line of succession for the president are octogenarians. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is 80 years old, and Senate President Pro Tempore Chuck Grassley is 87. News of Mr. Trump's positive test result may encourage lawmakers on Capitol Hill to revise their testing regime, as there is currently no regular testing in place for members of Congress...

The New York Times said:
The president’s result came after he spent months playing down the severity of the outbreak that has killed more than 207,000 in the United States and hours after insisting that “the end of the pandemic is in sight.”

I really wish that the news would just go back to reporting the news again, rather than editorializing everything.
Wait a minute! This just in:

The Washington Post said:
President Trump announced in a tweet early Friday that he and his wife Melania have both tested positive for the novel coronavirus. “We will begin our quarantine and recovery process immediately,” he wrote “We will get through this TOGETHER!” The news came just hours after it was reported that Hope Hicks, a close adviser to Trump who traveled with him aboard Air Force One several times this week, had tested positive.

The president’s physician, Sean P. Conley, wrote later that Trump and his wife “are both well at this time, and they plan to remain at home within the White House during their convalescence."

The Washington Post reported the news and just the news. It took me 30 minutes to find that one example.

I miss the days of news. Just news. You know, like Walter Cronkite with his glasses perched on the end of his nose, looking serious, staring directly into the camera and reading from a paper held in his hands. Just news. Maybe we need to raise a new generation of real, old school journalists.

Setting aside my wishes for the speediest return to health for POTUS, FLOTUS and everyone else involved, I share everyone's anxiety about how this will be covered. I fully expect both sides to spin it a particular way and for their favored media outlets and social media to shill for them--all with an eye towards Nov 3.

What we don't know is how the virus will run its course. It is simply too unpredictable. My wife and I contracted Covid at roughly the same time. She was symptom free within 72 hours. My symptoms started out mild. I described it at first, as a very mild flu. Things slowly worsened over a 7-9 day period with persistent high fever, exhaustion and several nights of night sweats (trust me, they're disgusting). After peaking, the symptoms gradually receded leaving me symptom free after another 7 days.

I simply can't imagine how even the best, most honest news outfits would cover the President's condition if it were to progress as did mine. Love him or hate him, people will want to know about his recovery. What are the questions which will be asked about the President's treatment? Do I or my sick parent have access to the same diagnostics and treatments as the President? What's his blood O2 count? Is he taking Hydroxychloroquine? Is he receiving convalescent plasma? What do we even have a right to know?

A Presidential White Top is on the three dots on the south lawn of the White House.

The president is going to Bethesda out of an abundance of caution.

This media coverage is really getting intrusive:

@Devil Doc , this one’s for you.

Oh, this is snort-funny hilarious and spot on. I just sent it to a whole bunch of people who are enjoying it. I have been to the Stab Ward!

Interesting stories cropping up about "overdoing it" when it comes to VIPs and celebrities. They even have a name for it: "VIP Syndrome".

Here's an article:

I can tell you that by following the news coverage, I now know more about POTUS' care in the hospital than I ever did when I was in the hospital last year.

I get it. The President being ill could invoke section 3 of the 25th amendment and stock prices could fall during the temporary change in power, but really, does everyone need to know what he was treated with and when? Does everyone need to know what his blood oxygen level was, on an hour-by-hour basis?

Back in the day (listen to me! - man, I'm old) we would hear things like "The President is resting comfortably and Doctors expect a full and speedy recovery" - or words to that effect. - and that would be it.

yeah, putting in an order for new curtains in the residence is premature by all in the chain of succession.

This virus has a survivability rate of 99 point something something percent. President Trump will be just fine.

Not for 74 year olds with comorbidities...

So, listening over the weekend, I was a little surprised to hear POTUS referred to as 'obese'. At his height, I think he looks good, not 'obese'. Just my opinion, but if they consider him obese, then I'm in trouble. I am a little fluffier than I was prior to Covid. It seems a bit extreme to toss the obese word around. But, I am not a physician, nor do I play one on TV.

He's marginally obese using the BMI.

What is the survivability rate for 74 year olds with comorbidities?

You're not going to make me contact my ER doctor dad to get numbers are you? Because I have a backlog of demanding numbers and studies from him.

He has cholesterol issues too, I believe. But I also don't have access to any of his medical records.
