ANNAPOLIS, Md.—Naval Academy Director of Athletics Chet Gladchuk and Army Director of Athletics Mike Buddie announced today that the 121st playing of the Army-Navy Game presented by USAA will be played at West Point on Saturday, Dec. 12.

The game is being moved from Philadelphia due to attendance limits placed on outdoor events in the state of Pennsylvania that do not allow the entire Brigade of Midshipmen and Corps of Cadets to attend. It marks the first time the Army-Navy Game has been played at a home site since World War II when Annapolis hosted the 1942 game and West Point the 1943 game. The two schools also rotated hosting the first four games from 1890-1893.

"As has been decided, we will not be able to visit the home of Army-Navy this December," said Gladchuk. "History will repeat itself as we stage this cherished tradition on Academy grounds as was the case dating back to World War II. Every effort was made to create a safe and acceptable environment for the Brigade, the Corps and our public while meeting city and state requirements. However, medical conditions and protocols dictate the environment in which we live. Therefore, on to the safe haven of West Point on Dec. 12 and let it ring true that even in the most challenging of times, the spirit and intent of the Brigade of Midshipmen and Corps of Cadets still prevails."

"For service academies, athletic competition is essential to developing tough, resilient leaders with competitive mindsets who are prepared to serve our country in uniform. There is no better representation of that than the Army-Navy Football Game each year," said Naval Academy Superintendent Vice Admiral Sean Buck. "We will miss the warm welcome the City of Philadelphia provides to Army and Navy fans, however, we are thrilled to continue this longstanding tradition by playing the 121st Army-Navy Game at Michie Stadium at West Point this year."

"We want to thank the City of Philadelphia, the Eagles and all involved in the planning for their efforts to navigate this historic game in the current COVID-19 climate," said Buddie. "Of utmost importance to us throughout this entire process was the health, safety and welfare of the Corps of Cadets and the Brigade of Midshipmen. We are excited about this historic opportunity to host Navy and the Brigade inside the gates of West Point for the first time since 1943."

"The health and welfare of the Corps of Cadets and Brigade of Midshipmen is the number one priority, said Lieutenant General Darryl A. Williams, 60th Superintendent of the USMA. "Hosting the Army-Navy game on West Point will be the safest way for the cadets and midshipmen to cheer their teams to victory."

It is unlikely there will be fan attendance allowed at Michie Stadium beyond the Corps of Cadets and Brigade of Midshipmen. The game will be televised by CBS Sports at 3:00 PM. Navy leads the all-time series with West Point, 61-52-7, and have won 15 of the last 18 contests.

Love it! When life gives you lemons....

The setting for Michie Stadium is absolutely beautiful, especially in autumn. By December, the leaves will have fallen, but I have no doubt that this venue along the Hudson will make for breathtaking scenes as the cadets and mids march in. Dang, I hope they march in.

AND they are part of history. Haven’t payed there since 1943. Thats pretty cool 😎

Also a LONG bus 🚌 ride.

Of course, it means We don’t get to attend. Maybe next year....

I'm sure that there will be a march on but it will be to a mostly empty stadium.

That said, I wonder if USMA will have cadets working the concession stands as they usually do.
I don't know if the mids would risk getting food from the Woops.

Do you think POTUS will still attend?
.
POTUS can if he wants ...

If the Brigade attends, maybe we will drive up from Virginia, stay in a nice place, watch the game from our room, and drive DD back .... maybe.

Btw .... Buck just posted a letter saying the Brigade will attend the game at WP.

I would imagine the chilly breeze off of the Hudson will keep the cadets and mids awake. Brrrr. I can't wait to waldo hunt from my couch. I would imagine they will also be masked so that ups the Waldo hunting game considerably. I am grateful it is being played.

Praying for 55 degree temps with zero wind! :)

So Army gets home field advantage against both Air Force and Navy this year, although without fans, the big advantage is they don't have to travel. Navy has to travel to both rival academies (and we see how that airplane ride worked out). Sure seems like Army traveling to Annapolis in December would keep it even.

Navy’s stadium is off campus and therefore state and local policies apply. With the USMA stadium on campus they can control things more and ensure the Brigade and Corps can attend instead of having to wait weeks for possible answers from the state of Maryland.

From that point, the decision makes sense. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for any advantage Army can use over Navy, for the past 20-ish years it's been painful watching my team lose. Assuming DS's year as a Falcon prepster yields expected results, there will be an extra good reason to cheer against Navy, and in the spirit of branch rivalry, I'll have to cheer Army over Air Force then too.

@NavyHoops You bring up an excellent point about state and local policies. I wonder how this got approved in NYS, Cuomo has us on a tight leash here - not complaining - its working, but almost 9000 people in one area is not the New York way these days.

It’s at West Point, federal military installation. I am guessing Cuomo technically doesn’t have a say.

True, and great point about the choice of WP over Annapolis based on where the stadiums actually sit.

The Army-Navy game is always the greatest national exposure that both academies get in a year, and this will be particularly fantastic exposure for WP. Plus, it's just awesome!!!

.... Cuomo is a leaner for sure, but he’s not un-American, and he is not politically dumb .... Besides, the Military has got the Covid situation under control far better than he does.

I bet he waves his Little American flag during the game.

Cuomo has no jurisdiction over WP.
I’m disappointed my A/N tickets will be useless this year, but extremely excited that it’s being played at the USMA!!
I will tailgate with other parents outside the gate and bring my Cadet home the next day.
Should be an amazing game played at the best location!

One of the options on the letter we received said they can be used for next year. Not sure if that means as a credit for any ticket? Or
For an actual Army Navy ticket. Hope it’s the latter!
