USNA Parents weekend

just thinking ahead in case life resumes to a more normal.......is parents weekend usually 6 weeks after I Day? USNA calendar shows I Day to be July 1 if everything stays the same so would parents weekend be August 12 - 15? Thank you!
 
DO NOT make Non-Refundable reservations or reservations where you have to cancel >30 days in advance to avoid penalty (unless you want to pay the penalty). There is no way USNA can predict now whether there will be any type of in-person PPW this year. If last year's approach holds true, they hope for the best and prepare for the worst. That means they typically don't make an announcement until relatively late b/c they are hoping that they will be safely able to do something in person. If / when it becomes apparent that's not possible, only then do they cancel.

Read the fine print of any reservations to avoid unhappiness later.

Yes for sure!!!! I won’t make any reservations that I can’t get my money back. Thank you so much!!! Hoping the world will improve by then!
 
Also they have made some significant changes already at USNA that will going forward (IE PROTRAMID). I wouldn't be surprised at all if things don’t go back to 100pct ‘normal’. This whole experience has/is/will led organizations to step back and take looks at what changes were/are due.

And new Dant...so 🤷‍♀️ Who knows what the future will hold.

Yes totally agree. Such strange times. It’s seems like normal that was pre-Covid might not be realistic. Ugh. I am going to cross my fingers for a plebe parent weekend!!

I hope you get all the normal activities as a Plebe parent! As a Class of 2024 Plebe parent, I can't even count how many SWA flights to/from Annapolis I have made, changed, and then ultimately canceled since DS's appointment! Put this into your vocabulary now - "SEMPER GUMBY" - Always flexible. Words to live by during normal times, but especially nowadays. Prepare yourself that things will change - because they will!
 
If you get an Airbnb in DTA (which is a good idea), make sure it has off-street parking.

So I gather AirBNB is better choice than hotel for Plebe Parent’s Weekend? There may only be 3 of us coming, possibly 4...🤷🏻‍♀️
Now that I think about it, I assume not all Plebe’s will have family join them 😓 so renting an AirBNB would make room for us to have a few extra plebe’s (if my DS knows of any) that will want to get away.
 
We discovered this last year, that some of the suite hotels with kitchens were a good alternative to Airbnb’s, as hotels were 100pct cancelable. We went over our allotted “service fee returned 3 times” piece of cancelling Airbnb’s over the last year, semper-gumbying 🙄🙄

Just know what you are signing. Some Airbnb’s are cancellable. But the Airbnb piece is not refundable beyond 3 times a year (rolling calendar). And you have to request it.

It’s a personal choice, but we rented away from DTA during parents weekend. Plebes want to be away, not only from the yard, but from detailers in civies out and about DTA 👀

Do our Plebes get to spend the night with us during the weekend or are they back in their dorms every night? (Assuming this is a "normal" and not Covid impacted Parent Weekend)?
 
Typically they get to spend time into the night. Plan on your Plebe wanting: a. to sleep, sleep, sleep, b. Pizza or Burger, c. Bring his/her favorite lounge around clothes (but Plebes can't be seen out of uniform). Parrents week-end is a great time (at least pre-covid).

Actually, they don’t spend the night. But report back late. It’s something to take into consideration as plebes en masse head back to the yard. We just planned to be there plenty early, had no issues whatsoever.
