USNA 2026 Waiting and.… Waiting

So would you say that the waiver process took about 2 months? I got an LOA from USNA a couple weeks ago and have been DQ'ed on DODMERB for over a month now. Is there a time I should be expecting a response from USNA?
I first got DQ'ed by USNA in early December and heard nothing until January. I don't remember the dates exactly but I first received an email stating that I had received an LOA, and the next day they sent another email telling me that they had requested a waiver. From there it took about two or three days until my waiver was granted, and a few more days after that until my appointment showed up in my portal. I'd say that it might take a little longer for you now since Admissions is super busy at this time of year, but hopefully that helps a bit!

thanks for sharing that. I think in our case it must be an accidental check mark in the portal, maybe an IT blip or something as DoDMERB has never said Waiver Granted, nor have we been asked for AMI or records.
Congrats on your appointment!
For me, USNA did not request any records or AMI either, so hopefully, that might be a good sign for you too (however, I did submit AMI for my USAFA waiver so USNA might've had access to those). For your DoDMERB portal, I'm thinking it might just be due to the large amounts of applicants and info they have to go through currently (which is why your portal doesn't show waiver granted), but obviously I have no idea, just a theory. Best of luck to you and hopefully you did in fact get a waiver!

My son's waiver last year was given without him even knowing until he reached out to the Academy. They also never requested a single detail other than what was provided initially. This year, since nothing had changed, they just rolled the waiver over to this cycle.

(Diagnosed mild eczema as a kid, hadn't taken meds or had any treatment since he was around 12 and never really any issues. But eczema is usually a big no go if chronic).

For me, the Medical Examination checkmark showing up in my portal meant that my waiver had been granted. I had been DQ'ed for about two months (meaning USNA had already looked at my DoDMERB) and there was still an X in the portal. When it turned to a checkmark, my DoDMERB portal showed 'Waiver Granted' and I received a letter in the mail a few weeks later stating that a waiver had been granted
So this happened to me this weekend. My waiver has now been granted and I have a checkmark. Do you think this means I will get an appointment? I have 2 nominations and my grades and test scores are great. Surely they wouldn't waste time with a waiver if they are going to deny you. Has anyone out there been denied after being granted a waiver?

None of us know. It’s a good step, but there is no guarantee. There are plenty who get waivers each year who do not receive appts.

As more appointments come in from our state, I keep hearing this in mind as well as "You're in it, until you're not".

I have read that this year they are only giving waivers to those that are going to be appointed, but as with everything online these days, take it with a grain of salt. None of us here actually work in Admissions, but that is just what I have heard. Based on your info, though (grades, standardized tests, etc.) it sounds like you are definitely competitive, but again it is all based on who you are competing against. Best of luck to you and I hope that BFE comes in soon!

Thank you! This gives me hope! Anyone know where I can get some patience?

Best of luck to you! I'm still waiting on USAFA here so I definitely feel you :stretcher:

Since he received a waiver based on last years application, I assume that is similar to being medically qualified without a waiver. The discussion I had with the USNA medical team member said that waivers for this year will be granted if offered an appointment.
Here is the original post about the waivers this year, in case you're interested

Well, I'll take my son's eventual decision as a litmus test for that! He had reached out to admissions early in the process (before noms were even due) and asked about updating his portal to reflect his medical qualifications from last year's cycle. They applied last year's waiver to his DQ and changed his status on the current cycle right after that to fully qualified.

With the gut feeling that he is going to get a TWE again, then it would make that statement inaccurate. If he by miracle gets one? Then it is right!

I am still at my waiting for review status in my application. Literally the most nerve racking month of my life will Be now until April 15

Oh, the Places You’ll Go!

“The Waiting Place for people just waiting. Waiting for a train to go or a bus to come, or a plane to go or the mail to come, or the rain to go or the phone to ring, or the snow to snow or the waiting around for a Yes or No or waiting for their hair to grow. Everyone is just waiting. Waiting for the fish to bite or waiting for the wind to fly a kite or waiting around for Friday night or waiting, perhaps, for their Uncle Jake or a pot to boil, or a Better Break or a string of pearls, or a pair of pants or a wig with curls, or Another Chance. Everyone is just waiting.” – Dr. Seuss

I wish you the best of luck! And I admire your perseverance to keep trying!

I just got my 3rd rejection a moment ago. Right now I'm thinking I'll be applying for a fourth time as I don't see any reason not to.
How did you receive the rejection was it email or in the USNA portal? Still waiting on my DS to hear back.. How many noms did you receive? Greatly appreciate your feedback as well all are waiting.

I did a routine log in to my portal and saw that CPR changed to "Turned Down." Two days later I got the standard rejection email. I had two nominations this year, one senatorial, and one from my congressman.

Sharing here in case it's helpful - Our DS negotiated everything up front and was transparent with ROTC and the Plan B University Admissions Dept. He knew he had an appointment, but enrolled anyway to save his space at the school and in ROTC in case something happen...an injury, change of plans, whatever. Or it could be in the event that an applicant is still waiting to find out if they will receive an appointment.

The Plan B University was more than happy to work with a student that is trying to serve and we found they really appreciated the student's desire to plan ahead. To build goodwill he was very straight forward with the university and told them, if not for the appointment, your school is my other choice and would be honored if I could attend if that's the way things play out.

He received refunds form both housing and admissions when they were informed he had made it through basic and would be continuing at USAFA. Took a few phone calls and he kept good records, but it all worked out.

Hope this helps for those that might find themselves waiting, or need their Plan B just in case.
Well I wish I read this earlier today! I had my DS decline his plan B, C and D today. He accepted his appointment about a month ago and felt the other schools needed to know so they could move forward with students perhaps on a waiting list. I hope that wasn’t a mistake!
