What happen now (post-appointment)?

Hi. I was wondering what happens between now and I-Day? DS received and accepted appointment and returned forms that were linked in the portal. Will there be another wave of information in the near future on what he should know or do or will be required to submit? Any recommendations on what we will need to do before Plebe Summer?

Congratulations and welcome to the family. As a parent of DS in class of 2025 I offer the following:
  • Hug your DS everyday between now and I-Day
  • Book your travel and make sure you are flexible as I Day(s) have been different for the last few years.
  • Hug your DS everyday between now and I-Day
  • Take time with you DS and enjoy his last few months of being a High schooler
  • Hug your DS everyday between now and I-Day
  • Watch for emails, USNA will flood him information
  • Hug your DS everyday between now and I-Day
  • Jon your local "USNA parents club" and create a network to lean on
  • Hug your DS everyday between now and I-Day
See a pattern???

Keep a close eye on this link below for ‘26 update. Your son should read through the links and hamburger menu items to get a feel for the “Permit to Report” items and other details.

Not sure what he has already completed…
- Vaccinations will be one of the first things to get going on.
- If he doesn’t have a regular tourist passport now, he should apply for one. He does NOT need it for I-Day and Plebe Summer (PS), but he will eventually. You can always send/bring it to him.
- Round up required identification papers.
- SF-86 security clearance form, can soak up a lot of time. Every address, foreign travel, etc.
- Resist the urge to start thinking about everything he might need. This isn’t regular college, in fact, it’s N*ot College. There will be a list of what he needs to bring. Wear the athletic shoes, a pair of shorts, polo shirt, have a gallon baggy with key paperwork, and a small daypack with required items.
- He should keep running and stay fit, do basic calisthenics. Run in bad weather and all times of day. Harden up legs gradually on pavement. Shin splints take down many
a plebe.
- Learn how to shave very fast. Multiple guys in a room, 1 shower, 1 sink.
- Wean off caffeinated drinks, all kinds, closer to I-Day.

Go search for the endless I-Day threads that pop up every spring like mushrooms after a rain!

This made me tear up! Thank you.

^ This is the #1 piece of advice I give my successful Candidates.. There are two games -going on during Plebe Summer, the mental and the physical. One of them is completely withing the Plebe's control...take the physical game off the table, and the mental game is a lot easier. (As an aside, I never thought the physical training during Plebe Summer was all that tough..but there are plenty that do).

Thank you. He is a distance runner and is in track season now so that part he has down. There will be so much to stress him that I am thankful running is his happy place.

I-Day travel important.

Keep in mind PPW travel and accomodations also. A little early, but those places to stay book fast that weekend. Date may not be out now, but get familiar with academic calendar.

Is it this form online?

I would like to get a jump on it if possible. Thanks!

The only sure thing in the military is change. Suggest you wait for the official PTR packet to arrive, so that you know you have the current version. You just never know.

Don’t worry about getting a jumpstart. More than a thousand plebes-to-be do this every year with time to spare. Just be organized and active when the packet arrives.

I believe somewhere someone suggested that if you don’t have a passport that you get one. Anyone know if that is true? If so that takes some time.

A passport is NOT needed for I-Day or Plebe Summer, but it is prudent to get the ball rolling and apply for one now. Foreign travel, exchange and training opportunities come up. You can always bring or send him the passport when it comes in.

Agreed. Much easier to get the process started before PS. Your P2B will soon discover that time and resources are limited once on the Yard. For example my DS broke his cell phone early in the AY. He had to wait until Saturday liberty to get to the Verizon store and had to coordinate a ride. He then had to stay at the store until he was able to figure out the phone was not fixable, buy a new one and then wait for ride to pick him up. Whole afternoon spent in a cell phone store.

DS ('25) applied before PS and passport arrived at home so we could take to him during a fall visit. Much easier to get done before hand.

Plan something FUN for June, preferably a vacation with your family or maybe with close friends. KEEP WORKING OUT. Lots of plebes-to-be stop working out when school ends and find themselves in a world of hurt come the first PEP session.

This may sound obvious, but I'll say it anyway. DO NOT DO SOMETHING STUPID. This includes, but is not limited to: underage drinking, drinking and driving, using marijuana or any other "illicit"/illegal substance even if it's legal in your state, vandalism, shoplifting, trespassing or any other crime. [Parking tickets, minor moving violations, etc. don't count.] Don't cheat on your exams or plagiarize your term papers.

The above isn't rocket science, but screwing up in the next few months is the fastest and easiest way to ruin your years of hard work and your plans to attend USNA.

If you are a smoker or "vaper," start withdrawing now. If you regularly drink alcohol (you shouldn't but I'm not naive), stop now. If you happen to be 21, you still won't be allowed to drink as a plebe, so start getting used to it now.

Don't overstress. Thousands of people have made it through PS and so will you.

I started weening myself off coffee a few weeks ago. Didn’t know it would be this hard…
