USNA Class of 2027 Waiting and Speculating

I applied to both senators and my congressman. Unfortunately, I got rejected by both senators, and I am still waiting to hear from my congressmen. I sent out my presidential nomination form last week and waiting for it to update in the portal
The point is you tried for the elected officials, good. Hang in there.

So...just comparing and contrasting last years appointment data to this year so far...and there were only 4 appointments posted before Thanksgiving for the class of 2025. This year there are already 8! Of the four from last year some were already MOC nomination sources, but this year no MOC nominations yet and all Presidential or JROTC. Not sure if this has any relevance at all, but interesting none the less!

(For some reason I was thinking there were more appointments posted last year this time, but I checked the thread...and nope! Not so!)

Don’t forget VP nom! Include that one as well.

I have an LOA contingent on a nomination, and I am eligbile for a presidential nomination. Will I get an appointment?
If you timely filed for the Presidential nom, and you have an LOA, and you are medically qualified and passed the CFA, I like your chances.

Our daughter is a junior at Bloomsberg in Pa and the NSA visited her school recruiting seniors in her major. It's about 23k per year all-in at this time. Our son is the HS senior, experiencing the same process as many of your young adults. Waiting results from USNA and from the NROTC board(s), and just finishing up his non-academy applications (Embry Riddle, Va. Tech, Texas A&M, Arizona State). With respect to looking at ROI, that's exactly what I did- back then the Washington Post Sunday edition had a huge employment section. At that time there more than 30 pages of engineering jobs; mostly computer science and electrical engineering. That's what got me to choose computer science. Norfolk State University was very affordable and I worked nights and weekends at 7-11. Graduate school was Va. Tech for which Raytheon paid. Defense contractors and most large companies help fund graduate school. ++ Good luck to your candidates and Gooooo Navy!!
Our son goes to Va Tech. From our research when he was applying, the vast majority of applicants are accepted through ED and EA. I think it's a lot harder to get in regular decision, especially for a competitive major like Engineering.

FYI - most decent graduate level engineering programs (MS and PhD) and many physical sciences (especially applied sciences) will offer a teacher or research assistantship and/or fellowship that will cover tuition, expenses, and a bit more. These are usually not paid for directly by industry but may have indirect program funding from industry (depending on the nature of the research). In general, if you are accepted into a graduate level program at the MS (and certainly at PhD level) and you are not offered a decent funding package that pays for all (or a large majority) of your expenses, find another program. Period. This is much different than, say, medical school, law school, MBA programs.

My nomination has finally appeared in my USNA portal. How long does it typically take for an LOA(with all the conditions met) to turn into an offer of appointment?
Your wait is akin to an active duty naval officer waiting for hard copy orders. It may not be long at all or perhaps it will much too long a wait. In your case, I think good news is on its way. Enjoy Thanksgiving and be happy when the offer comes. It'll probably be when you least expect it.

I think there are many different time lines but it was a quick turn around for my son last year. Last yr DS received USNA LOA on morning of 12/23, got word of Congressional nom late in afternoon on 12/23, and then USNA Portal update on 12/24 in am that he received an appointment. A great Christmas gift ;-) Basically 24 hr turn around for him. If you are medically qualified you should be good to go.

Congrats but still work on plan B & C for backups

Might be a bad question but my friend and I were discussing it and I figured if any one new it would be y’all. We both were lucky enough to get a loa and presidential nomination. We thought we heard something about USNA inviting loa recipients to USNA for something, not exactly sure what. Is this true or are we just hearing things?

Are you referring to Candidate Visit Weekends? My kid didn't receive an LOA or CVW invite so I cannot speak to what triggers them. I believe they are offered to a diverse strong candidate who may also be living in an underrepresented area.

Someone wiser than I will chime in and correct me if I'm wrong. Congrats on your LOA and your presidential nom.

I would still encourage you and your friend to apply to all sources of nomination available to you (although it may be past application deadlines for most).

Were those LOAs given at the CVW today not given previously? As in their portal did not say LOA until they were given the LOA today?

My daughter continues down the path. Medical showed up this AM in her portal as completed. Thank you to Mr. Mullen and team. First nom interview tomorrow. She's getting closer!
That's great news! Do you know when DODmets submitted it to DODmerb? My DD's was submitted on 10/19/22 and they noted that any submitted after 9/21/22 have not been processed. Good luck on her interview tomorrow!

Her exam was late August, early September. She had to get waiver which was performed on 9/21. So I'm assuming they have been working through the backlog. I'm guessing you will hear in a few more weeks. Good luck!
