USNA Class of 2027 Waiting and Speculating

So my son's portal also says complete pending review...except his app isn't complete....still missing some items especially nom...is it a glitch?
There are issues each cycle with the portal catching up to real life.

Your son should finish the items that aren’t done, let the portal go for a few days each week and keep plugging along.

He should track what items are not complete internally on his own and submit as he can.

I think part of the problem with LOAs is from the perspective of a college applicant they seem like early action or early decision. They are not that at all. Others have done a great job of explaining an LOA, but I think mentally disconnecting it from EA/ED helps put it in perspective.

Your application is marked complete when everything academically is in, I think. CFA, Nom, BGO, DoDMERB are not included in that. (I believe ..... don't quote me on that).

They won't award an appointment until all those boxes are checked and good to go.

I think don't think I like having an LOA. Got it at the end of September and have met all requirements except medical met. Finished the exams in the first week of September and DODMERB. I have been informed I have two remedial codes, but can't do anything about them until the system is back online.

Trust me, you’d feel differently if you didn’t have the loa.

Hi, I'm new! My DS managed to get his DoDMERB approval check in his portal by contacting admissions and sending them the letter he got from DoD stating he was fully medically qualified. Just in case it helps someone.

He has two congressional interviews scheduled and an LOA. He is far more calm than I am. His plan B is half-hearted, at best.

Plan B, C and D need to be full speed ahead. There are a million things (injuries mostly) that can happen between now and I-day that would preclude him from attending.

My daughter’s interview with our congressman’s nomination panel was yesterday. She was told half of the usual number of nomination applications were received this cycle in our district. Would be interesting to know if our senators are also receiving fewer applications and if it holds true across many states.

Service Academy and college applications are down across the board. Not 50%, but pretty significant. A lot of speculation among colleges about cause --some think its a fallout of COVID, as more people are staying closer to home.

Many college degrees are worth less. Incurring loans with less than adequate pay...is a factor for normal colleges.

Our local State U's are at least 30k/year now Hard to justify not going to free CC for a year or two if possible to save money.

Our daughter is a junior at Bloomsberg in Pa and the NSA visited her school recruiting seniors in her major. It's about 23k per year all-in at this time. Our son is the HS senior, experiencing the same process as many of your young adults. Waiting results from USNA and from the NROTC board(s), and just finishing up his non-academy applications (Embry Riddle, Va. Tech, Texas A&M, Arizona State). With respect to looking at ROI, that's exactly what I did- back then the Washington Post Sunday edition had a huge employment section. At that time there more than 30 pages of engineering jobs; mostly computer science and electrical engineering. That's what got me to choose computer science. Norfolk State University was very affordable and I worked nights and weekends at 7-11. Graduate school was Va. Tech for which Raytheon paid. Defense contractors and most large companies help fund graduate school. ++ Good luck to your candidates and Gooooo Navy!!

Another interesting piece of information my daughter learned was that of all candidates applying for a nomination in our district, she was the only one who expressed an interest in anything other than aviation (regardless of which SA the applicant ranked #1) Top Gun effect or just the fact that to a 17 year old, being a pilot sounds more exciting than other options? Frankly, at that age, I would have said aviation too😊

I have an LOA contingent on a nomination, and I am eligbile for a presidential nomination. Will I get an appointment?
Please reassure us you are not only eligible for a Presidential nom, but you applied for it, and it is possibly showing in your portal.

USNA’s website encourages all applicants to apply for all nominations for which they are eligible. This gives USNA maximum flexibility in where to charge an appointment if they choose to offer one, which the LOA certainly indicates they would like to. Did you apply for Senators, Representative and VP nom?

100 appointments in each class can be charged to the Presidential nom source. There could be several hundred who are eligible for the nom and have it in their portal.

I would say the signs are good, but don’t do a happy dance until you see it!

I applied to both senators and my congressman. Unfortunately, I got rejected by both senators, and I am still waiting to hear from my congressmen. I sent out my presidential nomination form last week and waiting for it to update in the portal
