USNA Class of 2027 Waiting and Speculating

Helpful. Thank u. My son is waiting eagerly but is surprisingly calm about it. He received LOA from WP in Dec and eventual appointment in BFE early Feb after DODMERB updated. He applied and received nomination to USNA, USAFA, USMA but has his hopes on USNA, after attending NASS last summer. His first love is USAFA, became Navy, and now leaning WP after appointment & overnight visit couple weeks ago. His academics, test scores, athletics & leadership, serve experience, and intangibles we believe are pretty solid. He’d be disappointed nonetheless if didn’t receive offer of appointment to Air Force OR Navy. Anyone have a sense of perspective on a student who received LOA at WP, and/or attended NASS, fully qualified otherwise and odds of getting into USNA?
No way of telling cross-Academy acceptances. Sometimes they get into one or more, sometimes not. Depends on what the slate competition was for that SA, the SA’s class-building needs, any number of factors.

@Coffee22 - thank you for this information! I am anxiously and not so patiently waiting. I feel like I have lost a lot of sleep and grown many gray hairs during this process! @NTXproud2027 - I feel like we are in the same boat! ;) - get it; boat... Anyway, my son got an LOA and then an appointment to West Point in January. His number one is Navy though. However, I keep reminding him that his "Option B" is a really good option! I am blown away by what he has managed to accomplish at such a young age. I wish I knew the odds and had an answer for both of us!

Congrats to both of your sons on WP appointments! :groupwave: Exciting to hear of so many candidates with excellent Plan Bs, should USNA Class of ‘27 not be their path.

The waiting is painstaking. DD reminded me this morning, a year ago she was waiting on NASS and got word of acceptance on 4/7. Somehow she’s more equipped at waiting then I. I was able to leave plans loose and revamp summer schedules to accommodate last summer, it just feels bigger and heavier to be waiting on an appointment, and all that it entails. The experienced folks reminding us, Semper Gumby and whatever and that, are teaching real life lessons here. Do you ever wish you could just google the answer? For now we wait, in excellent company.

Fingers crossed for your kiddo. Remember, attending NASS doesn’t have a bearing on a chance of appointment. NASS is an outreach program allowing students from all demographics and areas in the country to experience USNA.

My son was turned down for NASS, had no LOA and will commission from USNA in 2024.

If the application is complete and the candidate is continuing to respond to any requests for additional info, staying academically sound, physically fit, and out of trouble, that’s really all they can do at this juncture.

I've been at this a very long time and I can truly say that it is impossible to give odds on this. I do think it is fairly likely to at least come close but we've all seen many instances of USMA accepting people who don't get offers at USNA.

Also, there is a very old USNA joke that goes like this:
Q - Know what West Point cadets and USNA Mids have in common?
A- They all got accepted at West Point.

When DD attended a USMA Founders Day dinner in our area, she heard the West Point version of this joke. The alums were pushing her hard to “go West (Point), young lady.” She ended up a mid. ☺️

My kid definitely lived a saga over the two cycles ('25 and '26). His story covers almost everything that a candidate might experience in the journey. early LOA, medical DQs, waivers and more DQs at the last minute, no MoC noms - ever, TWEs, waitlisted, college re-applicant, NROTC scholarship and nomination offers (with ultimatum at first to choose one or the other - not both), decisions on the last day both years with the closing dates (April 15th decision date the Academy lists), etc. All cataloged here on the forum. ;)

It was definitely more outwardly stressful to us (parents) than it was to him.

We've been stuck JUST under 100 for so long! They're just messing with us at this point.

I’ve always wondered if your son was IronboyDaremo after that forged-in-fire journey to an appointment. Or maybe SteelyKidDaremo.

What box DIDNT he check??

I remember following along. Pretty sure I has a bit of whip lash 😬

Who has weird superstitions with this now? I’ve started wearing my Navy hoodie once a day until he gets in (this might go very very poorly for me:) oh and I drink from a Navy coffee mug! Oh and I have his Senator Kaine nomination on the fridge and I thank him multiple times a day! I feel like all these little things help with the luck he needs! Anyone doing anything similar and fun or maybe more useful!!? It’s so helpful to have all you folks here to help and listen! Thanks everybody!

So years ago, when DS was in middle school, a friend in MD mailed me a gift set of ceramic USNA coffee mugs (they look like old-school metal coffee camping mugs). Every day, for 5 years that was the only coffee cup I would use.

Then, in his junior year, in the midst of applying, my brother-in-law mailed him an old school, "Uncle Sam wants you for the Navy" poster. We chose to not open it.

Once he got the update in his portal? We opened the poster. You aren't crazy.

DD has a Navy baseball cap that she wears daily. I think she was holding out on washing it until she heard but we finally convinced her to wash it this weekend 🤢

I don't want to jinx anything so I stay away from anything SA. My rational mind says that ridiculous but...

I have a USNA water bottle that I bought because I left my Hydroflask in a Lyft on our first visit. I also have a few shirts. My son told me I am not allowed to buy anything else because I'll jinx it.
