Army ROTC 2023-2024 2nd Board

For the 1st Board there was an explicit notice to non-winners. I think it was a red banner at the top of the screen that said October board decisions had been communicated. It was very clear that we would be moving into the next board. With everything that's gone on with this round (from a web perspective) I would not give up hope on the second board until you see something like that.

I placed my top 6 as (in order) Princeton, Duke, Vanderbilt, Umich, UIUC, Gtech, and UT Austin, but I only got a 4 year to Princeton and UIUC. Does this mean Duke, Vanderbilt, and Umich are already full? I have already been admitted to Umich and UT Austin. Would love if someone could clarify this. Thanks. USACC attempts to distribute 4 and 3-year HS scholarships, not equally, but there's a ratio/algorithm for this...the Army wants lieutenants from a diverse set of civilian institutions. That's why you were offered for those specific schools.

Out of the board comes a ranking of everyone considered by the board (for this board it's those from October and January combined) - everyone is ranked. It goes like a draft (that you don't get to see) - but it just runs automatically - it's not a human saying that Jimmy goes to Michigan and Susie goes to Michigan State, the computer does it based on the allocations to schools (host programs) and the rank order of recipients.

It doesn't mean those schools were full, it could be that Princeton is a higher priority school than Michigan and you're a higher rank, so you slid into Princeton...and seriously, Michigan stole the winged helmet design from Princeton anyway. Might as well go to the OG, not the school without originality. James Madison was a better President than Ford too.

BUT!!! As I've previously said - contact the ROO at the #1 school - scholarships are transferrable!

I guess I am confused as on the ROTC site it says they give an ROTC member full tuition also, kinda looks the same as what my DS just won. And he only won 3 year, just wanted to confirm that we should be as excited as we are. :)

The'P' apparently stands for "pending" since a school hasn't been chosen. My daughter just won the 3year as well and was contacted by her #1 school's ROO tonight. He noted that the scholarship will go to her other schools if she doesn't get into her top 3 or chooses a different (non-listed) school. Congrats to everyone--full tuition for 3 years is a blessing for us (4 would have been icing on the cake, but it wasn't to be, I guess!). Some schools proactively cover room/board for ROTC scholarship winners, so it doesn't hurt to contact your school choice to see if they do!
 
My daughter is a recruited DI athlete and only really talked to that school’s ROO. I’m surprised to see here that candidates were offered scholarships to programs at schools where they haven’t been accepted?

My husband was an APMS 10 years ago at a school in Philly. He said that ROTC Battalions call scholarship winners, especially high academic students, to court them to their school. Does that not still happen?
 
Whoo Hoo! DS is a 3-Year AD winner to his top two schools (College of Charleston and Charleston Southern University). Both are cross-town affiliates of The Citadel.

Was tied up with work obligations all day and monitored all the chatter here via phone. Was able to celebrate the big news when I got home this evening. A very proud moment for the parents. :D

Congratulations to all the fellow winners! On to DodMERB!

Regular decision admission results have not been issued by many schools. So I'd imagine it is not uncommon to be awarded a scholarship for a school where you have not yet been accepted. It's the timing of everything and is inevitable.

Cadet Command has no idea to what universities students actually applied or were accepted to. I'm a former PMS and JROTC instructor and have had about 10 students in each situation request to transfer their scholarship (to my college's program as a PMS and to a college that was not one of the three on their letter offer as a JROTC SAI) and all were approved. And yes, I would personally call every scholarship winner to my school.

The PMS/ROO can only see those who put one of their schools on their list. If I'm the ROO at Purdue, and a kid put Purdue, Vandy, Notre Dame, Michigan, Stanford, and Northwestern on their list - I can see if they received a scholarship offer and will immediately engage via email or phone.

The Army doesn't see what schools a kid was accepted to. Only sees the schools listed on the application. Offers are based on what was put on the application.

So should my son reach out to ROO at his top three schools listed to let them know he got AROTC scholarship and ask them approve it? My son already got accepted by all those schools.

When you get the follow-on letter in the next 2 weeks to accept the scholarship or not, it will have instructions how to request a transfer (just a quick letter describing where to and why) but only to the one university he plans to go to. You should contact that program's ROO or PMS and let them know he intends to transfer the scholarship there so they can track him enrolling and facilitate the transfer request.

What is the timeline to do this? My daughter won't hear back from all her schools until late March (per a couple schools) - In case she doesn't get into the 3 listed on her scholarship award and ends up at one of the others, how long does she have until she has to notify Cadet Command of her change request? Thank you.
