Army ROTC 2023-2024 2nd Board

What is the timeline to do this? My daughter won't hear back from all her schools until late March (per a couple schools) - In case she doesn't get into the 3 listed on her scholarship award and ends up at one of the others, how long does she have until she has to notify Cadet Command of her change request? Thank you.

My understanding is that all you have to do is accept one of the scholarships offered by the March 9 deadline. That basically "holds your scholarship" in your name.

Then, at any point after that, if/when she is accepted to the school she really wants to attend, then you can submit a transfer request to see whether the scholarship can be transferred to that school.

I'd say pick her top school from among your current options and then navigate from there. And congratulations!

I can't speak for this year, so would wait until you get the letter for specific instructions. In previous years, I believe it said 30 days to accept and my JROTC Cadets in similar situations accepted the scholarship to one of the offered universities, but put a blurb in the letter that they intended to transfer it to a different university, pending acceptance there.

The PMS/ROO can only see those who put one of their schools on their list. If I'm the ROO at Purdue, and a kid put Purdue, Vandy, Notre Dame, Michigan, Stanford, and Northwestern on their list - I can see if they received a scholarship offer and will immediately engage via email or phone.

The Army doesn't see what schools a kid was accepted to. Only sees the schools listed on the application. Offers are based on what was put on the application.
That makes sense; thank you!

My son's says the same thing. Honestly, if my son was to get a scholarship, I'd expect him to squeak by on the March board. His GPA and extracurriculars are great, but his SAT was not stellar.
I had 1230 superscore, 3.87uw gpa, and afjrotc corps commander. I received my 4 year. As long as his essays really show he wants to be an army officer, he’ll definitely get something from the board.

USACC attempts to distribute 4 and 3-year HS scholarships, not equally, but there's a ratio/algorithm for this...the Army wants lieutenants from a diverse set of civilian institutions. That's why you were offered for those specific schools.

Out of the board comes a ranking of everyone considered by the board (for this board it's those from October and January combined) - everyone is ranked. It goes like a draft (that you don't get to see) - but it just runs automatically - it's not a human saying that Jimmy goes to Michigan and Susie goes to Michigan State, the computer does it based on the allocations to schools (host programs) and the rank order of recipients.

It doesn't mean those schools were full, it could be that Princeton is a higher priority school than Michigan and you're a higher rank, so you slid into Princeton...and seriously, Michigan stole the winged helmet design from Princeton anyway. Might as well go to the OG, not the school without originality. James Madison was a better President than Ford too.

BUT!!! As I've previously said - contact the ROO at the #1 school - scholarships are transferrable!
Thanks for the detailed explanation. The hard part now is getting into Princeton 😂

Interesting. My DS has a 3.85 uw gpa and got a 23 ACT (1140 SAT) and just received a 3-Year. His extracurriculars and athletics also great. VP of his class, multiple club president, co-captain soccer team, etc. So, maybe not that far from the cutoff between 3-Year and 4-Year line on the OML.

Also, for all those who fret about ACT/SAT scores, I wanted to wait until board results were in before saying this, but please hear me: STANDARDIZED TEST SCORES ARE NOT EVERYTHING. I knew my DS's ACT score was mediocre, but I also knew the rest of his application was really strong. He had a great interview and got great feedback on that. I just want to encourage everyone who may not have received an offer yet that you should not lose hope. None of you are defined by your test score. It's just part of the process, and if you've proven yourself inside and outside the classroom for four years, and you really demonstrate that through your application and interview, you had a good chance of earning a scholarship.

I am rooting for all of you still playing the "waiting game." It's hard, but it honestly does not matter whether you get a scholarship in October, January or March. They all count the same!

Also the PMS interview weighs a lot. The one I went to was super unprofessional, and honestly he kept saying he didn’t want to give me a hard time and just tried to award me as many point possible. We talked about his daughter who declined a West Point appointment for the majority of the time haha.

Very similar academics to yours, may I ask what your athletics looked like?

Does anyone know what we(those of us who got our scholarships today) do now? Like I've read over everything they said to read, but can't find how to accept the scholarship yet.

It in the Winner Letter available in your "File Upload" tab of the portal.

Also, on the winner letter it says to check out the physical fitness and high requirements in the additional information section but it just brings you to a page not found screen on goarmy.com. Does anyone have any idea where to find those elsewhere?

I’m new to this but I’ve been following this thread, my status is B/UC, so although I should wait for the official results, I assume I am moved to the next board, my stats were amazing in extra curricular activities, but I had a horrible SAT of 990, but I did take it a few times.

I did get accepted into one of my schools I wanted to go to so if all fails I know I have a plan, even if it means I am going to have to take a loan out for at least one year

Hey does anyone know when the DoDMERD process begins? Do they put all scholarship winners into the system, or only after you return your scholarship acceptance form?

Did you try the ACT? My DS took the SAT twice and did terribly. Tried the ACT and his score was considerably better. Took ACT two more time and raised his composite one point on each attempt.

If you haven't tried the ACT and you can still take it in time for the March board, I'd give it a go.

I have, it’s on my application I think (have to double check)

I’m a horrible test taker, and that isn’t an excuse really. I am a little disappointed but I know I just have to wait.

If anything I know I can compete for a campus scholarship, I just don’t know how it would add up for me; I have a fear of debt because I want to be a Veterinarian 😭
