Army ROTC 2023-2024 2nd Board

PMS and ROO all have the JAN board list now, contact them if you're in the "Under Consideration" category...At this point, that means you're moving onto the final, March board. *Your file is not "re-boarded" - only new applications are boarded, but then everything is racked together to build an order of merit list.

Don't worry, my kid is in that same situation, his still says "Under Consideration" for January board, but just talked with a ROO buddy and he's not on the list. Sometimes, it doesn't make sense. Welcome to the military. He was considered in the OCT board, now JAN, and onto MAR to see what's up.

Some of his data: 4.3 Weighted/3.75 Unweighted GPA. 8 Varsity Letters. 3-year captain of the ice hockey team, captain of the lacrosse team, and 3-year captain of the club soccer team. President of the Latin Club, National Honor Society, Youth Hockey Coach, Church Groups, etc. Maxed PMS interview and PT (I know because I saw it in CCIMS).

He's already accepted and declared to his #1 school (R1, Land Grant, flagship university) and has tuition covered by other means. This is room and board, book, and living expenses funds. If he ends up without it, everything will be fine - just have some loans to pay off down the road.
so if were still b/uc its definitely not happening?

I have an active duty Navy son, an AFROTC Space Force 4 year scholarship winner middle son, and now this DS is interested mostly in AF but is open to all branches. There is no one way of doing anything, including this. Many times people don't know what they are interested in or driven by until they experience it.
I love that he’s open to all branches. I have an AD Air Force child, an Army ROTC senior and my husband and I are both Army vets. If my son follows through with NROTC this will be a new branch for us. Very unfamiliar territory, but somehow it feels like the right one for my son. It’s interesting to see how each of child matches up with each branch.

Yesterday I was extremely fortunate to be selected for a 4-year scholarship to the top three schools on my list, which are all very selective colleges, so I'm not sure I will be admitted to any of them, but nothing ventured, nothing gained. My DODMERB qualification for Army ROTC was also posted yesterday. Today I was again extremely fortunate to receive an appointment at West Point. I have some major decisions to make.

Same for my son. I always loved the post board season years ago with everyone trying to make sense of it all. In the end, he wants it and will sit in the seat first semester to get the scholarship. Either way is a win! I’ll start the March board page in a couple of weeks. I Look forward to seeing you there!

My DS is Boarded/UC at this time. His message displays the same way others described. It still has language about the January board. He did not submit in round 1. There is not a red banner across the top of his page for ROTC, and the DODMERB site still shows only the medical qualification he has for USMA. Here are his stats.

3.32 GPA (Unweighted with all Honors Courses)
1 Dual Enrollment Course, No AP
1400 SAT
Good Feedback from PMS Interview
Letter of Rec from a 3-Star
Boy's State, PT Work, Club President for Engineering, Varsity Letter in Football Senior Year, Track 2 years, Tennis 1 year
PFT: 44 Push-Ups, 41 Sit-Ups, 6:41 mile
No decision yet for USMA. File qualified, but in a very competitive district.

First choice is VA Tech. Second is VMI.
Not giving up hope entirely on this round until I see the red banner (if that even matters).
Congrats to the winners! Go Army! Beat Navy!

Has anyone gotten declined? We are still showing as boarded UC which is great, still in the game. I just wish it would update for all.

Where is the option to submit a letter of rec? I have a letter of recommendation from my coach and I was told I could include it. Just don't know how I can upload it

same situation. almost the exact same stats, but i guess we gotta wait until march

I don't have a dog in the fight but been exactly where the 3rd board hopefuls are right now with my DS 3 years ago.

He wasn't shocked not to get one 2nd board but you could tell it disappointed him a little.

Remember most of the scholarships are on the 3rd board. He has been in ROTC 3 years now. Loves it. This whole thing isn't a sprint its a marathon. As @formerPMS mentioned be prepared for the kids to show up day 1 without a scholarship and earn a campus based. Even the 3rd board isn't the end if its something you truly want.

Thank you for sharing. We will wait another month for his fate. It just sucks that we can't make a decision on where he will be attending with so many unknowns still happening. The FAFSA results are delayed, his top 3 choices are of course out of state (higher tuition) and I lost my job back in March 2023 and the new job I start at is making a lot less money so we are going to be struggling to help him pay for it. Even with a student loan we wouldn't be able to afford it and of course FAFSA results will go off of what I made last year... not currently. :( I don't want money to be the reason my son can't go to college. I will work a 2nd and 3rd job if I have to. He has worked far too hard up to this point to give up now.

I am a little bit skeptical that they are done with 2 board until the red banner pops up. I think that with the weirdness this board and the website being down for so long, a lot could still be going on behind the scenes. In regards with the distributed lists to the PMSs and ROOs, I think that there is potential for those to be incomplete and just a first round of 2nd board winners. While I could be wrong, I think there is a solid chance those who were notified already were simply processed and ready before the website broke, so they decided to go ahead and release their results while they finished up the others.

Again, I may be completely wrong and misinterpreting everything. Frankly, part of what makes me skeptical is my own situation. I should (emphasis on should, you never know) check all the boxes (1520 SAT, 3.95 Unweighted GPA, Eagle Scout, Boys State, Varsity, etc. etc.) My one weakness is more middle of the road PFA scores. This is not to toot my own horn or anything, but I'm simply skeptical to not receive at least a 3yr.

Once again, I may be completely wrong, but I'm simply hesitant to come to conclusions until there is official word from Cadet Command at Knox.

Does anyone know if Texas A&M has any programs to help cover the first year if you win a 3 year?

I would have bet on you getting one with your stats. Great accomplishments! I'm sure you will get one.

If you are awarded a 3 year rotc scholarship is there a chance you can be moved into a 4 year scholarship?
Yes. Based on prior years, some 3-year winners from this January board will be bumped up to 4-year awards after the March board. I can't claim to know exactly how that works, but I assume it has to do with where you are on the master OML. The cutoff line for 4-year scholarships probably gets adjusted after the last board, based on others who have many declined and/or available funding, and then whoever is above that line gets bumped up.

Once we turn in the winner letter, can we change a school among schools in the letter?
