USNA Class of 2028 Waiting and Speculating

In my experience the kids I've seen who apply only to the academies, not ROTC, have other primary reasons.

So, your Narrative has included some really suspect broad brush statements as in the above ^^^ …. Either you can provide us a link to the Study, or you can do one yourself, as in:

1. Create the Hypothesis

2. Detail your study Categorical features

3. Detail what your “Expectations” (Counts) are for the Categories with relation to your study sample size

4. Perform the experiment and log the data

5. Perform a “Chi-Squared Goodness of Fit” test between your Expectations and your Results … document the Fit and tell us whether the Null Hypothesis fails or not.

I'm on it, but a poster told me I'll have to take it to another thread. I'll keep you updated.

On a more important note for us all, Iran just attacked Israel. I'm gonna get off here for a while. Good luck to all those still waiting for decisions. Your service is greatly appreciated.

Well my DS is TD; before Wednesday at 2pm it said Pending Review Withdraw. You are still in it!;) it’ll go Complete ( instead of Pending) if you are getting an appointment; if it’s a Turned down, then it’ll go directly from Pending to Turned down! Good luck all and Go NAVY!!:)
I'm sorry. I really hate seeing these.

Let me give you an example of what Holden 100 described

DS applied for both USNA with NROTC as back up plan (plan B), he also applied for USMA but without AROTC backup.

Obviously he is more interested in serving in the navy than in the army. If you take out all the navy option, which is likely the case, because he ditched his NROTC after West Point appointment -- so his path to serve the navy is only to go to USNA.

So he is more interested in attending to USMA (as a college) than the army service. But of course, he will serve the army after West Point graduation -- what if he had not got his West Point appointment, -- he would not be able to serve at all.

I think some kids are more into the academy's prestige than the service itself -- in my son's case the army

Lots of back and forth going on here, wow! I’ve met countless officers who went to USNA and even ROTC just because they wanted free college, they don’t really care too much about serving. Everywhere I’ve been in the navy… bootcamp, A school, C school, and my first and current ship, the most common discussion topic is “why did you enlist/commission?” Wanna know how many people say “to serve my country”? NO ONE! But obviously there’s a piece of all of us that want to, otherwise we wouldn’t be here. We all have our own reasons for what we do, no one really cares. The reality of it? It’s 2024, college is CRAZY expensive, and honestly just living is expensive these days. The military provides free college, housing allowance, having 3 meals provided a day, and job security. It’s more common than you’d think for people to join simply because they didn’t know where their next meal would come from, and that’s not a worry when you’re in the service. As long as you’re in the right place and in the right uniform, it really doesn’t matter why you did what you did. One thing for sure, we all love our country and want to serve, regardless of how you ended up here. I know this forum is mainly parents worried about their kid getting into USNA but to be real with you, if your kid is even interested in college and the military, you’ve already done great as a parent and your kid is going to do great no matter what they choose to do (especially reading you guys’ stats…. I’m seeing GPAs and SAT scores I didn’t even know was possible???? Good for you all) Monday is two days away, we’re allllllllmost there 🫶🏼🥳

Thank you for your service.

Truth BOOM! Thanks for that... well done

For several applicants, the change to CPR means you will see an offer of appointment in 72 hrs! Congrats!
Did it change today? It means Complete Pending Review, and if this thread is an indicator, an appointment is coming! Congratulations!!! My DS is pending in Florida District 22. I'm hoping to hear that his portal changes to CPR or, better yet, Appointed. Does anyone have a picture of the appointment?

You sound like relatable-to-all officer material to me!

sometimes i say "to serve my country" as a way to be "professional" but in reality it's because becoming a marine, enlisted or officer, is hella cool

May I respectfully suggest if you truly aspire to be a Marine, you invest the time in capitalizing the M. That is their proper name. Everywhere. Even when you are dreaming. That is their culture and their superpower, to be Marine to the last cell.

Get in the mood by reading some of GEN Mattis’ quotes:

Then, improve your mind by checking out his reading list:

And the Marines always have the best branding and recruiting slogans and campaigns. They know exactly who they are and who they want.

I have been following comments on this site for the last few months. We have some military background in our family but was never exposed to the SAs. My wife and I are in utterly amazed by the time and effort put forth by our (and your) kids to get to this point. Not to mention a common and very unique (compared to the general teenage population) desire to defend the U.S. Constitution. Arguably the most important attribute of every candidate on this forum. Thanks to you, we are better informed and even more impressed with each candidate, parent and supporter. My heart goes out to every TD update and I am rooting for all others. Thanks for making us all very proud! We stay positive in pending land together

+100 to @Capt MJ recommendation of the good Gen. Mattis as an example.

I'm listening to his autobiography, "Call Sign Chaos." It's one of the best books I've heard/read about leadership. At the core of his leadership principles: teamwork, teamwork, teamwork. He writes a lot about clarity in command, collaboration across branches, autonomy for underlings, and the morality of war amid destruction of the enemy. I now know why this was a leader whom others would follow to hell and back.

An amazing Marine! I capitalized it. Because if I didn't, DD would hold me to account.

Hear, hear.
And to underscore that Marine-ness element - one of our USNA sponsor family alumni went Marine. Name of first son: Mattis. At least they didn’t name their daughter “Chesty.”

Now, if we could just re-calibrate the “airforce” users…
