USNA Class of 2028 Waiting and Speculating

I think it's safe to say that claims of admissions employees stating timelines for everyone being notified, and even a portal "Important Notice" is not a safe expectation. I have heard claims of Mid's not knowing until a week before I day, so that will be the new expectation for my DS. He will need to move on with plan B and the when the appointment comes, it comes. Still pending is a great place to be. He is grateful that admissions didn't just say the hell with it and TD everyone pending, and work the waitlist. Wishing the best for all (@anom especially as you deserve a shot).

Only time will tell. I will take Pending over TD any day! DS will continue to prep for Plebe Summer, contact plan B school (Embry-Riddle) if no word is heard by May 1st, then we will place a deposit to hold a spot.

In hopes that DS is ultimately accepted to the USNA Class of 2028, we will happily consider the $200 deposit well spent if he has to decline at the last minute. It will be well worth the extra tutoring outside of my classroom 🤩

We are in the same boat here. My DS is still on the fence with Embry-Riddle and UCF as a plan B. I think UCF needs the $200 by May 15th. Totally agree that I would happily lose the $ if an appointment comes. Best of luck to you and yours.....

Those who get appointments that close to I Day are on the waitlist. They well know this can happen. USNA will cut the wait list as the yield solidifies.

Hopefully, we will both be celebrating at I-Day with our DS. I would love to meet all those that went through this together.

Those pulled late, are from the waitlist. Which requires that each participant either accept, or decline, their placement on the list. If also comes with instructions, including move forward with plan B’s.

Those not on the waitlist will be notified soon. Yall are in a different category than waitlisters.

I’m sorry for the delays. Maybe put all this aside, and focus on fun stuff this weekend. I’m certain admissions would prefer to not have to wait, as well. Think about this: if you were decided as FQO of appointment yesterday, you wouldn’t find out until Monday, anyhow, with the congressional notification period that’s allowed.

Soon!

Adding this: patience, and the ability to handle stuff like this, is IMPERATIVE in the military. My son has been delayed, and delayed, and delayed, and delayed (over a year) in his move from his current port to an international one. Keeps getting pushed back. It affects a lot of things (car purchases, spousal employment, leases and housing, and more). He also has been told he is changing departments for over a year (gets pushed back a month here and there, promises of ‘soon’, over and over and over). That affects his training, working hours and schedules. Point is, this delay period exposure you are going through, is wonderful training for your future life.

As a civilian, we are used to things running a certain way. It’s just different in the military. Period. Doesn’t mean people aren’t trying. They are. But, a GOAL date isn’t a promise. And not an exaggeration (where are my Mid parents 🙋‍♀️), being flexible is what it’s all about. You have almost no control over anything, for the next many years. Semper Gumby.

We’re in the same boat. We have $300 down at The Citadel but hoping and praying DS gets the appointment from USNA/NAPS. Also looking at football at USMMA.

We’d gladly lose the $300 for the other two. Always good to have backup to your backup.

That makes sense. The Brigade Commander at Inspire told us he didn't know until a week before because of a medical (asthma). I am just trying to help set realistic expectations and then anything that happens before is a blessing. Thanks for your feedback. Appreciate your experience.

Citadel is an option for us also

Interesting post in the Pending forum
Do you mind giving us a little more context for this. Who is from? Was this today?
He is the West Virginia area coordinator. I emailed him yesterday about if he knew anything about my application status. He originally emailed me on April 7th with 11 others from West Virginia saying that we would all know our decisions by April 15th.

Completely agree! No control over anything. Just go with the flow!

This, this and this again. "Hurry up and wait" is an unofficial motto of the military. After DD commissioned, she waited for TBS. Then she waited for MOS school. Then she waited to take command of her first platoon. Patience is a virtue, and if you don't have it when entering USNA, you'll surely have it when you leave.

Semper Gumby because things will change...constantly. What's that about "the only constant is change"? DS, an AROTC MS3, has been given his orders for advanced camp and CTLT coming this summer. We all know the drill by now: Be ready for change (and knock on wood).

Congrats on GWU, my mid is there. You wrote "full ride," but do you mean "full tuition?" NROTC doesn't pay housing & meals, and GWU doesn't discount those for NROTC students. GWU discounts housing for STEM majors, whether ROTC or not. (Students who receive Pell Grants can use toward housing.)
Thank you for the correction!
I plan to use the NROTC for tuition. I’m hoping to use the $250/month + $750 book funds for room and board and other expenditures on top of other non-rotc scholarships. I’ll definitely be using what I can from FAFSA as well (if only it wasn’t so delayed this year 😓)

Agreed. DS has an amazing opportunity play baseball at PSU and a $24k scholarship. I’ll gladly pay/lose a deposit in exchange for a late appointment. Pleased to still be pending. And as an old school Marine we’ve been living by our unofficial motto; hurry up & wait!

We placed the deposit for Embry-Riddle earlier this week when DS received the TD from USAFA. Best to have plan C set in place. Luckily DS has a Type 1 AFROTC scholarship on hold just waiting on USNA.

Speaking for USNA Foundation students, most of us have a CPR status in our portals. Some have received news of appointment via phone call from MOCs; however, our portals still show the CPR status. One of my friends who received the good news today said that the appointment will appear in the portal on Saturday according to his MOC. It seems like those who have a CPR status have an appointment that hasn’t officially been loaded into the portal.
Did you get foundation?
