Thanks for your response Humey. DD’s intended major at USAFA is Computer and Network Security, at USMMA it is Maritime Logistics and Security. She plans on enlisting in AF after graduation and retiring with 20 years. Then on to a career with the FBI. So it is a pretty well laid out plan. Her dilemma is that both academies can get her to where she wants to go. Perhaps it will come down to the food...
I am confused by the bolded statement above. If she is planning on either USAFAPS or USMMA, she will not be enlisting in the AF after she graduates from either. If she goes to USAFAPS she will have to technically enlist after high school graduation to attend the prep school, but its a very specified enlistment, and will only last the prep school year. Once she graduates from USAFA she will be commissioned as 2LT in the AF.
Based on her stated goals, I would recommend she take the Prep School offer and not look back! My hubby is a USAFA preppy and he wouldn't trade that year for anything. Our son will be a NAPSTER in July. That prep school year counts towards time in service for both retirement and pay purposes, by the way! This keeps her time line for her 20 years of service then fbi career the same as if she was direct entry. (the 4 years at a service academy do not count toward retirement)
