Take a break from checking portals?

For those veterans of this process, do you think it is a good idea for DS to take a break from checking portals during the holiday week? I figure that the MOC and admissions personnel will likely not be working until after New Years.

Also, he could use a break from the daily checking. I keep telling him (based on this forum) that he will not hear anything until April, but he keeps checking every day.

Thanks

YES! It’s easy to lose the glow and fun of senior year and last holidays at home before college when you’re constantly checking the portal. How about checking only on Friday or something like that?

Monday is a Fed holiday, I think, and with a govt shut down, non-essential Fed civilians may be out on furlough. The normal holiday slowdown may be compounded by that.

Much depends on how the shut down and exceptions, as well as FY budget already settled, for each agency and department.

As an applicant myself, I checked my portal last night and don’t plan on checking it again until after New Year’s. It’s been a long wait since I opened my application last January, and I wouldn’t expect any correspondence until at least after New Year’s.

Good luck with that. Let me know how it works out for you. I don't think there will be any new news after 12/24. Probably doesn't matter to these kids though.

Tuesday is a federal holiday. Defense is not shutdown nor are congressional offices. The "partial" shutdown is exactly that although it is hard to sort through the media reporting.

The following have appropriation bills already signed:
  • Defense
  • Energy and Water
  • Labor, Health, Human Services and Education
  • Legislative Branch
  • Military Construction and Veterans Affairs
