Hello folks,

Just out of pure curiosity I was wondering what the maximum WCS a candidate can achieve is for USAFA. If anyone knows that would be cool if you could enlighten me. The reason I ask is I was recently told my score by my ALO and was curious to see how close I am to the max points. And before anyone freaks out I realize that this won't help my chances. I just am curious to know how well USAFA considers I did, that's all.

Thank you!

Max is 8,000.

Average accepted is 6,000.

Don’t ask me how I got those numbers.

Reminds me of my niece who was trained by the Army in Farsi. She was called back up the week after 9/11 as a "listener" in GA. I once asked how they do that. It's the only time in my life someone told me "I could tell you but I'd have to kill you" and actually meant it! :D

I won't because they're not correct.

Unless USAFA has increased the WCS scoring system by an order of magnitude.

I gave USMA.

And can prove it.

There are five (or 6) categories with a potential 800 score ... overall score is out of 8000.

I'm not sure if anyone besides the admission people know for certain how anything is scored. However, SAF has had some detailed posts about this in the past. I believe this is currently the best understanding we have at the moment.

I didn’t see that thread ...

But - from the post:

According to the same study, which used data from 2001 to figure this number, candidates who were offered appointments to USMA had an average WCS of 6,012.33 while rejected candidates had an average WCS of 5,399.53. If this is still true, a candidate with a 700 AAS has a significant advantage over a candidate with a 300 AAS.

There was a question in the thread if it is based on 8000. The answer is yes ... it’s in the RAND study.

It might be true per the study for that time period for USMA, not the other SAs. And since that study is dated and I have not seen updated info released in an official capacity, those averages have probably shifted, scoring has changed, and even the WCS has probably shifted since then. Since the OP applied to USAFA, doesn’t apply. OP, I know you are curious, but honestly not something to worry about.

I wouldn't put any current stock in numbers from 2001 - no disrespect but the AF has gone through several cycles of RIFs and accession bumps and a million process improvement scenarios etc - just since last year. My hubs keeps saying "I got my appointment before Christmas!" - -uh, that was 25 years ago... {{eyeroll}} LOL! They change the numbers year to year to year and the methods are constantly being scrutinized with retention standards changing and evolving. Even last year's numbers are only a rough guide to give an idea. Force management is incredibly involved and ever changing
