    Life after ROTC scholarship ?

Depending on what career path you choose (or whichever one the military chooses for you) will determine when you can get your master's degree. In general, it is not advantageous to get your master's degree immediately after you commission. While your peers are getting evaluated and completing...

    NROTC Scholarship Failure

I don't know if things have changed since your son went through the program, but you can be awarded a 4 year scholarship as early as your spring semester of your freshman year (we had many people at my unit who did this). I believe the Navy will refund the money that you spent on the fall...

    NROTC College Programmer

It sounds like even though your son didn't get his first choice, he still has a stellar backup plan. Probably the single best piece of advice I can give to anyone going into college is to do something you love. I started my freshman year at UNC as a comp sci major and now I am a week away from...

    Navy ROTC

There are several boards for the NROTC scholarship (2 in the fall and 4 in the spring IIRC) so you could hear any time now. The NROTC scholarship uses a rolling admissions process similar to USNA. If you aren't picked up by the first board after you applied, they will keep evaluating your...

Advice for those who received TWEs.....

TLDR: Give yourself some time to unwind before jumping back into the USNA application process. I made a post earlier this year about my experience with USNA and my backup school, UNC. The single most important piece of advice I can give anyone who received a TWE is this: DO NOT even think...

Waiters ....this thread is for you

Currently at UNC in the NROTC program. NCSU, Duke (or Dook depending on which shade of blue you wear), and UNC are in the same consortium under one CO. I've had the chance to interact with several mids from NCSU and they are great guys and gals, and I took a class there over the summer...

How do candidates decide between USNA or NROTC?

I couldn't imagine what it would be like to be in your position. However I will say this: if your goal is to be a Naval Officer, go with the most sure thing. At the end of the day a commission is a commission no matter how you get it. If your goal is to attend USNA, then you have answered...

Tips for Surviving Your First Year in ROTC (Any Branch)

I am currently a sophomore in NROTC at UNC. Here are some things I have learned that I wished I would have known before I started college. Please to add to the list, as I am sure I missed something. Don't overload yourself your first semester. You will never regret having too high of a GPA...

Rejected from USNA: My Life 2 Years Later

I believe the Air Force has a similar program to what the Navy calls Advanced Standing. It isn't a scholarship but you do receive a stipend and a commission. I have always thought of this as a scholarship, however that label is a bit misleading.

Rejected from USNA: My Life 2 Years Later

We have 40 Midshipmen, 4 MECEPs, and 1 OC as of the beginning of January. We will be commissioning 1 OC and 5 Midshipmen this Spring.

Rejected from USNA: My Life 2 Years Later

You do have to earn a scholarship by graduation in order to commission. Fortunately, there are many different opportunities to earn a scholarship while you are in ROTC. As of right now, the Navy has 4, 3, and 2 year scholarships. There is also something known as Advanced Standing where the...

Rejected from USNA: My Life 2 Years Later

DISCLAIMER: The opinions I am expressing are my own and do not reflect the opinions of UNC Naval ROTC, the Navy/Marine Corps, etc. My intention IS NOT to disparage the Naval Academy, nor is it to convince anybody to decide one way or another. The purpose of this post is to share MY personal...
