All Admissions Decisions are RECEIVED! THANK YOU for all your help!

Paige, your rationale for choosing VT pretty much mirrored the ones my son listed as his basis for choosing VT over Norwich and the Citadel. He really liked both of the other two schools, but the fact he was going to be interacting with over 30,000 civilian students on a daily basis, coupled...

    Enlisting and ROTC -

My son tells me that they saw a similar number of departures from the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets this year (they started with around 435 and lost 125). I can't say for certain, but I suspect those attrition numbers are fairly common in the SMC programs.

Congratulations! My son is a freshman Hokie in the VTCC (Army ROTC) and loves it!

Hi Botello! He ended up getting in at Virginia Tech and decided to go there.

    Maybe Norwich?

I would definitely recommend talking to someone at Norwich and contacting someone in the ROTC program. We did that well before my son applied and found the information we gleamed from talking to them and visiting the school itself to be very helpful. We not only learned a lot about Norwich, but...

    Norwich University '26

In fairness, the exit you likely saw for Norwich is for the Town of Norwich and not Norwich University. This can be a bit confusing for people who aren’t familiar with the area as a lot of people assume the college is in the Town of Norwich. The exit for the college is the Northfield exit (the...

    Virginia Tech

Thanks for all of the feedback! It’s great to hear insights from people who have or currently going through this. Once we hear back on the VA Tech financials, we’ll at least know what we’re working with. As parents, we love both schools and will be thrilled with either.

    Virginia Tech

Thanks for that feedback. Every single thing you mentioned are on the same list of “pros” we are coming up with. There are certainly things we love about Norwich (cost; close to home; a lot of great extracurricular opportunities; etc . . .) but if we take cost out of the equation, VA Tech wins...

    Virginia Tech

What is most important to him is coming out of his 4 year experience well-prepared for a career in the Army. Assuming all of the SMCs are roughly equal on that front, the money will be a big factor. As for the intangibles, I think he likes the fact that Norwich is primarily focused on the...

    Virginia Tech

Our son had gotten waitlisted at Virginia Tech (which had been his first choice) so we had all wrapped our heads around him going to Norwich. He really likes Norwich and they offered him an amazing financial package, so we put a deposit down assuming that he wouldn’t hear anything from VA Tech...

Good luck! It is looking more and more likely that my son will end up there (unless he gets into VA Tech at which point, he’ll have a tough decision to make). He’s starting to wrap his head around the idea of getting out of Norwich debt free and is getting more excited about going there.

    Citadel C/O 2026 - Thread

Thank you! The allure of Charleston is definitely a strong factor! We've heard from a number of people (parents of students who have gone to both and current/recently retired officers in the military alike) that as someone who is definitely looking to be commissioned, he can't go wrong with...

    Norwich University

Even being from Vermont, those are all concerns shared by my son (although the "not too many co-eds" factor is a concern he also has about the Citadel - in fact, it is more pronounced there than at Norwich). I can say with authority that yes, it is cold here from late October through late April...

    Citadel C/O 2026 - Thread

My son was accepted at the Citadel in mid-December and we visited it for the first time in February. We were all very impressed with the school and we all loved the City of Charleston (especially the weather - being from Vermont, temps in the 60s and 70s in February is a huge plus in the...

    Norwich University '26

Norwich was the first school that accepted my son and it is certainly a leading contender based mainly on the amazing financial package they have offered (even if he doesn't get an ROTC scholarship, it will cost him what each of the other schools he is looking at will cost with a 3 year ROTC...

    Texas A&M C/O 2026 Thread

franknd, I reached out to the Office of the Commandant at A&M with that very question and here is what I was told: 1. The student would be considered a civilian during his/her PSA year at a satellite campus (Corpus Christi; San Antonio; etc . . . ) but did have the option of joining the ROTC...

    Texas A&M C/O 2026 Thread

My son was offered the PSA option at A&M and is mulling over whether he wants to take it. Does anyone have any insights on the PSA route? He is in at the Citadel and Norwich and was waitlisted at VA Tech. A lot of it will come down to finances (so far Norwich is by far the most affordable with...

    AROTC 3rd Board

Hi all. As a parent who is very new to this whole process and who did not have a very hands on approach to our son's application process, I have what is probably a very silly question. His current application status says "Boarded/Under Consideration". Does this mean that his application was...
