I noticed PBS broadcast was starting S1Epi1 tonight of “The Fall,” a most satisfying police homicide series set in the UK, with a story arc covering the entire season. Gillian Anderson excels as the high-powered lead investigator. Satisfying action as well as dark psychology swirled in.

The series was a COVID favorite, and I may just watch it again. It’s a slow, addictive burn of a story.

Recommended. I am sure you can find it on PBS Passport or other sources for streaming.

Any others you’d recommend in the mystery/thriller/murder genre?

And yes, I’ve seen “The Tunnel.” If it’s PBS/BBC, I’ve seen many, but not all.

The Fall is fantastic (and The Tunnel, too). A couple more, must-watch crime thriller, police procedurals are:

British -- Line of Duty
American -- The Killing (set in Seattle)

So many more great ones!

Will look for both, think I have seen them, but haven’t dipped in. Thank you.

If you enjoy the more depressing, but really good side of British television, I’d recommend Broadchurch. It’s a police mystery with a really stellar cast, including Olivia Coleman and David Tennant who are both great in pretty much everything. Bonus is Jodie Whittaker, who goes on to also play the Doctor like Tennant.

They did an American version of the show called Gracepoint with David Tennant but it’s weirdly just not as good.

Warning though, because the subject matter can be stressful for some.

I’ve seen Broadchurch in the schedule but haven’t dived in. I just finished all the Wallander series with Kenneth Branagh, excellent but sad what happens to his character.

Last season of Endeavour is coming up. I have loved that group of characters from the original Morse to Lewis and Endeavor.

Oh Wallander! I watched that with my parents. I have a huge celebrity crush on Tom Hiddleston because I love Loki and he’s so young and blond in that.

That reminds me of The Night Manager, which is not really like The Fall or Broadchurch, but is good. Hiddleston and Hugh Laurie are in it, as well as Olivia Coleman again.

Any Brit drama with Nicola Walker as a main character is watchable. I just watched her in Annika.

Now that mention Gillian Anderson that opens up a new topic:

BEST YANK ACTORS PLAYING BRITS CONVINCINGLY

Plenty of Brits earn their chops playing their younger cousins from across the pond, but it doesn't always go the other way.

Robert Downey Jr comes to mind (played Charlie Chaplin & Sherlock Holmes).
Johhny Depp has played a number of Brits pretty well, and not just pirates. Various Limey accents, too.
The enire cast of Spinal Tap? Take it to "11".
John Lithgow did a good Churchill in Netflix's "The Crown".
Rene Zellweger (who grew up speaking German at home) as Bridget Jones.

Definitely not the latest Jack Ryan.

Sweet mother of pearl!

IMO this one is well worth the watch. Well written well cast and keeps you guessing , in a smart intelligent way, as far as who the bad guys are.

I still am not convinced the bad guy set up for season 2 is really the bad one.

I loved that one. I read another season is coming. Although who knows when with the recent strikes.

Her character is AWESOME.

Well if the strike does slow it down or end it I will have to sit down and rewatch The Americans as well as season 1 of the Diplomat again.

She was great but the cast around her was really good as well.

Another one which is not quite as good but somewhat similar (and still quite good) is The Night Agent on Netflix.

Being retired I can watch a lot of TV

Maybe the best limited series I have ever watched is The Little Drummer Girl. Mossad, terror, spies, really well done.

Although if you don’t know the book well read a wiki overview first. It can be confusing otherwise.

Was just going to suggest that one. We have similar taste. I enjoyed Night Agent as well.

There was a big production on Prime called The Citadel that seemed right up my alley, but could get past the first half of the first episode.

I’ve made it through 3 episodes of Citadel. It’s take about a month

We are very alike. I never made it thru the first epi of the Citadel either. And I was prepared to like it.

Slow Horses on AppleTV is solid. But the upstream refs for the diplomat and the Americans +1

Shetland - wish there were more. Loved the scenery. Like all the ones based on Ann Cleeves books.

Sharp Objects - will check out.

Watching “Bancroft” and “DI Ray” now and impatiently awaiting next season of “Van der Valk” and “Annika.”
