So it was leaked from several AOCs that the wing will be returning to a 1-3 squadron transition. I’m honestly not happy about it at all because I like my baby squad. Any older grads have a positive outlook on it? Any bad squads I should be hoping I don’t land in? Like what are the pros of being somewhere like Sijan Tower?

BLUF: I don't really care about what squad I'm in, and it's better to worry about the things I can control.

I'm kind of surprised this question is being asked on this forum, but I'll do my best to answer it. Positive outlook: you spend 3 years getting to know a new group of people and really bond with them. Also, a reputation of "good doolie/bad doolie" doesn't follow you, so you get a fresh start.

As for good/bad squad, I honestly don't like that question very much. Every single year, 50% of the squad is an entirely different group of people, and the culture and personality of the squad changes by that much or more. AOCs and AMTs are only around for 3 years, leading to even more variability from year to year.

Location is probably the most stable thing, but even that isn't too definitive.
Sijan pros: Sijan firstie parking when you area firstie + allegedly a small permanent party presence, and proximity to the chapel & A-hall for Sijan tower.
Vandy pros: Closer to gym, 2 deg parking, A-hall for vandy main, mailroom and C-store.

5th & 6th floors: pro: fantastic view, con: leg workout to go to the quad.
2nd & 3rd floors: just the opposite of 5th & 6th.

Me personally, I'd prefer a 3rd or 5th floor squad, and the east side of Sijan followed by Vandy tower.

when DS was at USAFA his was 1-3 and it was a good thing. It was good to get out of his Doolie squad and into a new one and be stable for 3 years. He remained GOOD friends with a lot of his Doolie squadmates but wasn't tied to them and really absorbed into his new squad; being there C3C year set him up to have leadership roles C2C year and as a Firstie. To this day though he is very close to his first semester C4C roommates and I have pics of the 3 of them at every major milestone and each of their weddings.
The scramble was random so he had no choice of which squadron

I lived in what is now called "Sijan Tower" all four years (CS-34/CS-39). Loved it; we switched 2/2.

It's what you make of it; like the entire 4-year experience.

The west side of either dorm is fairly far from anything useful in a given Cadet day. How often are you going to the Chapel or A-Hall? Sijan is nice for proximity to Fairchild and Mitch's (daily). East Vandy is nice for things like C-Store and gym. Short of Amazon, I am guessing the mail room is a lesser draw these days, but it still a perk of East Vandy.

Thank you all for your input. Does anyone know what qualifies as legacy? I have an uncle who graduated here in the 80s, and was wondering if that would count.

From the Air Force Cadet Wing Instruction 36-3501 (not sure if this is the latest version). Emphasis mine.

"4.3.2. Legacy Squadron Program. Allows children, grandchildren, or siblings of former graduates or AOC/AMT to be assigned to the predecessor’s squadron. No two siblings may be in the same squadron at the same time. If a sibling is residing in the graduating squadron consideration will be given to placement into “Doolie” squadron. The approving authority for deviation is the Vice Commandant of Cadets"

So uncle does not qualify, but there is a possibility to request a "deviation" from the official policy. I'm not 100% on the legacy program. This would be a question for the your AOC (through the cadet chain-of-command).
