Should candidates that are CPR, 3Q, with at least 1 Nomination expect to start receiving a TWE? Self-Reported Appointments are at 120, which equates to at least 1200 appointments that have been awarded by now. This number is based on previous posts stating about 10% of appointments are self-reported each year.

Yes, no, maybe. USNA will extend more than 1200 offers, because its yield is about 88%. It’s been said that about 10% of acceptances are reported here. You can be sure that some 3Q with nom have already received TWE. But whether that means anything to any one individual is impossible to say.

Thank you all for your responses. I realize there is no rhyme or reason... Fortunately, I have received an appointment to the USCGA, and I have been accepted to Georgia Tech for Aerospace Engineering. As a navy dependent, the navy has been my life and the USNA... is my first choice.

Well what are they waiting for!? ;) Just kidding I understand the process is very very very complex. That does give us waiters some hope though!

I have never seen a member post here who said "Yes! I work in Admissions!" and "This is how it is..."
As far as anyone here knows, it may not be all that complex after all.

Heck, they may just throw all the applications up in the air and send offers to the ones that land on the conference room table. ;)

I've been trying to crunch numbers in hope of finding a way to model the process.

Unfortunately it's a lot like wondering what a one-handed clap would sound like.

I tried to model the USAFA admissions, its nearly impossible. I download the thread into excel sorted by state. Then you have to assume were the appointments were charged, that's the tough part, no way to really know. I knew my total nominations available, more or less then started subtracting by state using a specific charging assumption, presidential, senate, moc, etc. given the nomination source indicated in the thread. It gets complicated. I think I was able to get a rough guess of appointments left by state but its just a guess.

Remember that there are still ~300ish appointments to go that will go to prepsters. Foundation and NAPS tend to get theirs later in the cycle. So don’t forget they get a chunk. Trying to figure this out with math won’t help. Where someone gets charged could change. All kinds of variables involved that are unknown to even figure it out. A candidate with an active duty parent may qualify for a Presidential and a MOC even though they live in another state, but it’s where their parents home of record is. Well they might be a water walker who also participates in NJROTC and qualifies for that too. And since they are a water walker they might just be in that top 150 and be charged to the Sec Nav. It gets complicated.

We are working hard to concentrate on the following. Every day with no TWE is a day DS is still in it. Solid plan B and plan C is in place and plans for the Summer are being formulated based on that. It is hard on these kids, though. At this point, all of the ones still in it are truly exceptional young people. I am sure that they will all be successful regardless of how the USNA application turns out. Hang in there. You are not alone in this wait!

We are one of the prepsters you mentioned above. So far, none of my DD’s friends from prep school have heard anything about BFE’s or TWE’s yet. Fingers crossed.

That is pretty normal for prepsters to not have heard yet. Usually come in mid to late April timeframe. If they are borderline on something like a PRT or GPA at NAPS it can come even later.

@NavyHoops …. Can USNA accommodate all the NAPSters if they all do well? Is there enough space?

My daughter will be looking for spot June 2020 when she graduates next May 2020 at NAPS.

Echo 'Hoops +1 , and will go a bit further -- I have never heard of anyone who successfully completes NAPS not get offered an Appointment.
First, NAPSters are required to apply for all Nominations that they are eligible for -- Admissions first choice is to use those Noms. However, on top of that, Admissions can draw on the SECNAV pool). Bottom line, they will find a way to get successful NAPSters in.

Key there is "successful." NAPS can be a tough program for some, and in my day there was a fair amount of academic attrition as well as a handful of honor cases. In addition, I would expect that USNA could always deny admission for conduct or aptitude issues that fall short of disenrollment. Again, the bottom line and good gouge is that a NAPs candidate will be admitted unless they fail out, or do something stupid.

Echo Hoops and Old Navy BGO. I've been associated with USNA in one way or another since the early 70's and have never seen a NAPSTER who met the qualifications not get appointed.
