2020 Summer Seminar

So will we receive our official candidate number (if we get one) with the results of our SS application? Seems like they take a while to send out acceptance/rejection to summer programs, and I’d love to get started on my application ASAP!

If you are accepted to NASS, you do indeed receive your candidate number. However, until the application period for USNA, you won’t be able to start your application online. The portal opens at the same time for everyone whether or not they attend NASS.

If you do attend NASS, a piece of your application will be done: candidates take the CFA during NASS. But you won’t be able to do anything officially yourself until the portal opens for all candidates.

Thanks! But is the NASS application the same as the preliminary application? Or only if you are accepted?

USNA NASS serves as the preliminary application. This should be stated in the NASS application on usna.edu.

Has anyone had experience with children going to Summer STEM? My 9th grader has applied. She's excited about it but I have no idea how those camps work---do they also have to wait for acceptance? She applied the day it opened--Jan 6.

When I applied, it took them until May-ish until I got my result! It really just depends, from what I heard I got mine later than others.

Website says that the result will be released on April 15th 2020. I actually just submitted last night and waiting for my USNA summer seminar as well. Even though I've applied for USAFA on 1/13, I still haven't heard back.

As far as summer seminar, our son attended stem, was declined summer seminar 3rd week April. Completed app with dodmerb by 12 October and received appointment 14 January.
Not attending or getting into NASS does not determine appointments. But it is an amazing opportunity to Explore the yard and the classrooms

Is there anything during NASS that parents should plan to attend (Do I need to take time off work?)? Or do I simply need to drop off and pick up DS?

My son was accepted to NASS in late March. He flew there alone, I flew there the night before it was over. There is a gathering the final day that both students and parents attend. There were a bunch of speakers. I didn’t find it very helpful. Then my son and I walked around the campus together, which was fun.

My son was turned down for STEM camp 2 years ago and turned down for NASS last year. He was very disappointed and discouraged after each year of a rejection. This year he will be a part of the 2024 class. Do not give up on your dream. Stay focused on the goal!!

I don't think so. Save your time/money and let your DS attend on their own. If a CVW opportunity comes up then that is good for parents.

I believe it's in rolling admissions based on the date you applied. I got my acceptance today but I have to pay by a certain date, or else my spot will be given to someone else.

A decent amount of NASS acceptances were released today, so make sure to check your email! As Hopeful2025 said, the admissions into NASS are on a rolling basis.

If one gets into NASS, is he guaranteed a spot in the class next year, i know it has no affect with other academies but is Naval difierent?
