2021--what to expect in the next 2 months

Are you talking about wearing them under dress socks? Can you give them black dress socks that have better wicking qualities but still meet the requirements?
Personally, pack as little as you can - consider buying the bags that you can vacuum to minimize space - towels take up big space - try to fit everything into one bag/suitcase and a backpack. You can always send up socks in the mail during Indoc or bring them with you at parents weekend. If it's not in the logging in book I would give serious consideration of not packing/taking it - sports equipment, Bible (other religious book) excluded. If you do not want to pack towels, when you order the kit from the NEX, call them and ask for extra PT t-shirts and even towels to be included in the kit for your DD/DS - at least the NEX used to do that. You will hear from your DD/DS that they would like this or that after they get there.

MY PERSONAL OPINION - Get your DD/DS a CREDIT CARD now... NOT a Debit Card - Credit Card is not attached to your checking account (they will get a debit card from Navy FCU when they join it) - a debit card is attached and if the debit card is compromised they (crook/bad guy) can drain your checking account $$ - yes you will probably get your $$ back but in the mean time you are without funds to buy/pay for stuff - with a Credit Card you still have your funds in your account and you dispute the charge and do not have to pay and you are not out any $$. Just recently Wendy's and Chipotle were breached and people's accounts were compromised - and now inconvenienced with missing $$ and have to wait for a new debit card - Again MY OPINION ONLY

I do suggest some black cotton sweat socks. I presume the issued socks are still almost 100% polyester and they can cause some rank feet so most people wear white sweat socks under their black socks.

Actually, they issue black cotton socks and the synthetic socks too. I would toss the synthetic ones and just use the cotton ones. Also @KPEngineer , the academy doesn't issue corframs anymore, something about them not being approved for shipboard wear. So you have to wear leathers all 4 years now unless the new commandant coming in changes that. But who knows.

And yeah, plebe year destroys your leathers, from the constant running to getting PT'd in them in the hallway in the morning. I basically just tossed those leathers after plebe year and got a better sized pair from a senior at the time.

Also, leather sizing you can't get the same size as you use in athletic shoes, maybe everyone knows this except me, but I was running around with grossly oversized shoes for a year. It uses a different size scale, Like in athletic shoes I'm a 13 but in leathers I'm a 10.5.

Also a good point. Most will likely not be keeping anything and are a good source of additional uniform items. Especially extra pins, collar devices, belt buckles, etc.

For the NEX, how do we place and order? I tried calling both yesterday and today, and I got a voicemail both times! How soon should we order our plebe kit / laptop? Also, will we get our ordered materials when we arrive at indoc, or are they mailed to us before? Thank you!

I called NEX today and spoke to someone there. He said you can email the person (Lane someone) from the Logging In book and place your order that way. If you're ordering the personal items kit, be sure to indicate sex, shoe size for shower sandals, size for Speedo (for trunks! I asked!), and also size for compression shorts (I'm assuming tell them waist size and equivalent--S, M, L, etc). Include your credit card, plebes contact information. Same with the laptop and accessory package. The NEX guy said that it would be waiting/ready for them at Indoc and they wouldn't have to lug it around on the first day. I don't think there's an option to get it mailed to you before Indoc, but I could be wrong about it. They were very helpful. :)

Mr. 2021, there should be an order form/items list in either logging on, or in the packet that is sent to you. you can order extras. beware that a lot of extras is not really a good thing, as you then have to stow them someplace. extra socks, underwear, compression shorts etc are ok, but I would think twice about doubling or tripling up on towels. The items are not sent to you. If you go to usmma aaf and look at the pictures from last years indoc, you will see plebe candidates sitting in the hallway, with their new stamp, dutifully stamping everything with their new identifying mark, and placing them in nice neat piles.

I just spoke to Amanda at NEX and she an email will be sent out for ordering purposes. There will be a form included that one can fill out and email or mail.

She said that she has an email? Do we need to request it? Or is it automatically going to every accepted plebe? Thanks!

She said an email was going to be sent out. I would think the candidate will get since I don't recall ever submitting my email to The USMMA. But then our fb 2021 Parent Group is on top of things and will keep us informed.

Our son was able to email to the Health Center his dental x-rays, dental record, wisdom teeth form/letter, immunization records, and health insurance cards this week. And they replied today that they received it.
