Has there been a date set for the class of 2022 Induction Day? If not, when would that information be available?

Do girls need to cut their hair?

As far as I know, incoming women will get the Plebe chop, unless their hair is already pixie short. “As far as I know” means it could change this year. Many get their hair cut short at home and donate to Locks of Love. It all grows back.

Incoming men get the full buzz.

DS is for some reason maintaining the short military cut he's had for many years over the ears, in the back...but that top seems a bit long and though I'm paying for a full haircut each time there seems to be some scissor work absent on top. hmmmm...Guess he's trying to keep some long locks as long as he can? 100 days or so...then buzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

If their cut is regulation I think they just wave the scissors over their head. Locks of Love was something my DD did. Cut at home is the best choice. Buy a second Dixie Cup at the Mid Store for posterity along with a few I-Day tee Shirts and tote bags.

I know why the girls cut their hair in advance but why don't the guys? If you wait until I-Day you have the fresh buzz look with the super white scalp. If you do this a week or two before going you have tanned your scalp and it doesn't have such a distinct look to it. I know they will buzz it again on I-Day but they can't untan your head.

Just my two cents.

You may have just chaged my mind. Not a week ahead but at my going away party. Thanks for the idea and 2c!

Friend with a plebe suggested the lads get cut ahead so they don’t have to deal with the itchy little hairs sticking to them on a warm MD summer day. DH had a great idea too: that morning rub a bit of powder over neck and edge of face: will help prevent the little cut off hairs from sticking.

All the above sounds right and well thought out. I will say several of my male classmates showed up at USAFA with the longest hair of their lives, and soon became legend among us doolies. That was a summer a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away...but as you will all soon see, some source of humor is always very helpful during your first summer...cut your hair, don't cut your hair...48 hours in, you won't care!

When I was on my CVW in September the girls recommended cutting your hair beforehand because they said it can be a little longer and the hair ladies there will turn a blind eye and also said if the ladies there cut it they kind of butcher it and don't put a lot of care into it because they have so many people to get through. So, if you want a good quality hair cut, I'd do it before. I know I am.

For guys, its a given that you are going to get buzzed and look like a goof for a few months. It all grows back ! Never fails, some show up with long manes and become legends in the class. We still laugh about it on the Class FB page. It's all fun, but may attract some special attention from the detailers...so if you are going to play the game, better have the moxie to back it up !

As the saying goes with Navy barbers (who still have vacuum cleaners attached to their clippers - Flobee anyone?) what’s the difference between a Good haircut and a bad one?

Answer: Two weeks!

I have been cutting my own hair with Wahl clippers since the 80's.
I have probably saved around $8,000 in haircuts.

So I got that going for me, which is nice!

In recent years, there has been debate whether plebe women will need to get their hair cut (since after PS their hair can be long provided it is "put up" to be within regulation). Unless you read something different, assume you will need to get it cut. I also recommend doing so prior to I-Day. They will cut it for you in I-Day, but there is no time to get fancy or even do a good job. If you have it done in advance, your stylist can give you something that will work well for the summer and is then easy to start growing out after PS, should you choose to do so.

My daughter (Class of 2019) opted to not cut her hair before I-Day and regretted it. She was not too thrilled with the chop job she received courtesy of USNA. It has long since grown back out but if she had to do it all over again she would have had it cut to meet requirements. It was just one more miserable event for her to deal with on I-Day.

Sounds like the upperclassmen regulatory haircut
