2024 March Madness

I don't think Burns can get it over Edy, but who knows... That pivot he has might work.
I think you're right. No one gets it OVER Edy. We'll see if Burns can get around him. We know he'd win the Miss Congeniality contest.

That pivot is a thing of beauty. I've been to two World's Fairs and the Bolshoi Ballet and I've never seen anything like it.

Wow. Iowa LSU was an awesome game.

Caitlin Clark is the best college basketball player I have watched.
She is special. I went to the Big 10 Tourney a few weeks ago and head to Cleveland this week. Although, she is going to have to learn the concept of defense after she is drafted.

lol I saw one play tonight where she could have doubled down low but she bowed out. And some bad turnovers tonight. But wow.

Her release time is outrageous.

lol my twin brother is buying season tickets to Indianapolis WNBA assuming they are drafting Caitlyn Clark first. 2,500. Decent seats.

Not on my bingo card. Ever.

Him, and a whole lot of other people!

My Hawks survived a squeaker! Go Hawks!
LSU Coach Mulkey took some heat for her arrogant attitude saying they would play Clark straight up, e.g. no changes just for her. Clark torched them with 41 points. UCONN had a different scheme and almost pulled it off. The USCe Gamecocks and Coach Staley are a whole different animal however. I'm pulling for Iowa but believe South Carolina will win by a comfortable margin.

The Gamecocks need to avoid setting illegal screens. Apparently, the Hawkeyes know how to set ONLY legal screens.

lol it was clearly a foul.
Eye of the beholder.

ESPN’s Scott Van Pelt and Andraya Carter didn’t agree with the call, either.

“I hated the call. You’ve got to give Gabbie Marshall credit for trying to fight over the screen. That’s what drew the refs’ attention in,” Carter said on "SportsCenter" after the game. “But to me, now that final play it’s not about Iowa defense. It’s about the call the referee made. There was a slight lean, maybe Aaliyah Edwards’ elbow was slightly out. But to be honest the calls were even for both sides. There were missed calls for Iowa. There were missed contact for UConn. To make that call at the very end of the game – to me it took away the opportunity for players to make plays. … To be honest, that call sucked.”

They never call fouls on Zach Edy, so the match up with DJ will be something to watch.

Great game last night between Iowa and UConn. I appreciated the grit shown by both teams.

The screen was illegal but seemed ticky tack compared to how the referees called the rest of the game. There were so many hand checks, holds, travels, and other fouls that were let go during the game. I challenge those who feel that referees should let anything go near the end and let the players determine the outcome on the court. Really? A foul is a foul. Illegal moves are illegal regardless of how much time is on the clock. Most, if not all, calls are judgement calls but they shouldn't depend on time left. In context, this screen was no worse than the others (and probably less fragrant than most). Oh well, it is part of the game.

Iowa will have to play a lot better than that to have a chance against So. Carolina.

I saw the lean and the elbow out but in both football and basketball at the end of the game with the game on the line, refs should be reluctant to be a factor in deciding the outcome. Let them play except for the obvious or egregious foul or penalty. Did that call qualify as obvious or egregious? The ref who made the call thought it did in that moment. On further review, I'd like to know if the ref would make it again if given the chance.

She takes a huge step with her elbow up and hits her. If she didn’t, Gabby would have been able to defend the shot. There is no question that needs to be called, regardless of the time on the clock.
