2 days!! I remember how exciting this was when my own was selecting. Good luck everyone!! I’ll be cheering from the couch!!

Already got my watch party supplies (wine and whatever else is in the frig) and placed the various prop bets.

Supposedly they have changed it a bit this year from the last few, by not having the "XYZ-available" slots to pick from and forcing a separate listing per service selection category (SWO, SWO-Nuke, SWO-EDO, SWO-Option). This would tighten down the number of extra slots required but also mean some MIDNs have fewer choice slots to choose from... We'll see how it plays out.

I would think it is closed, as it is a mid-specific thing to pick and celebrate.

Others will chime in with their experiences.

I have watched the last years wondering what DS (c/o '25) path would look like in 2025. As of today, he is firmly planted in SWO-land and has assured me that if SWO is first choice he is likely to get it. So here is to class of 2024 SWO's---may your choices be plentiful! Looking forward to 2025 ship selection!

Thanks for the reminders. However DS told me that while the Blue Chips are offered at end of cruise, the MIDN had to decide right then to accept or decline. If the MIDN accepted the Blue Chip, the expectation was that they would (must?) choose that ship at Ship Selection.

Also what is difference between "SWO option" and "Conventional"?

Newbie.... sorry for the dumb question. Is this process just for MIDN that are going on surface ships (do I have that right ? non subs)?
What are the other options? I would think pilot school based on what i have read but anything else?

SWO Option are those SWO-Intel, SWO-Ocean, etc. The newly pinned SWO have a guaranteed option to lat xfer to those other groups. I believe SWO Nukes and EDO are required to xfer, but not sure if that is accurate. Conventional are the "plain" SWO who are expected to continue as SWOs past pinning.

Just Surface, yes. It gives them the one shining moment over the other groups.

Subs, Aviation and MC have some say in when they start their next course (nuke school, TBS, flight school, etc) but the sub or plane type, etc arent determined until that training.

Thanks for the response. Another question- if you don't mind...

Do they all know prior to picking off the board, or is it first come first serve base don rank and file in class?

They have sorta good ideas but nothing guaranteed. There are informal lists bouncing around between them where they list their hopeful ship, so they can see if anyone picking above them is going to take it. That helps narrow down a list of 20-30 expected choices for those picking in the middle. But, any particular MIDN could take anything available and mess that up. Especially if there is still a Rota or Japanese slot available later than expected.

But yes, they are lined up in order of merit and best ranked gets first pick of whatever is available and so on.

Surface Line, mighty fine! Underway is the only way!! Good luck on your pick '24 SWOs!

Is ship selection open to the public or only live streamed?
My DH and my DS's girlfriend, along with sponsor mom and brother, went last year. They had a lot of fun. I had to work, so I watched livestream.
