2025 Candidate

Hi! I'm actually new here. I want to apply to the academy, but I live abroad. I am now doing the letters for nomination to send to the vice president and congressman. I tried to register into the portal, but it requires a SSAN which I don't have. I'm also wondering if how many months usually it will take for me to complete all my application since I'm pretty nervous I will not be able to pass all the requirements in time. I hope someone can help me. Thankyou in advance :)

@art Have you gone to the academy admissions website and read all the requirements to apply for the Air Force Academy? Have you taken the SAT yet?

I also believe that the process can take a bit longer due to the fact that you live abroad and are not a holder of an SSN. Anyone can correct me if I'm wrong.

Are you a U.S.citizen? Getting a SSN would be a good thing to do.

If you are not a U.S. citizen, then look for the application process that applies to international students, which is a different process and doesn’t involve noms from U.S. elected officials

Yes, I have. I've read that we need to apply for nomination in our country and writing letter for the government officials in our country is what I've been doing these past few days. Aside from obtaining nomination, taking SAT, and passing CFA.. there's nothing else written there. When it comes to SAT, I will be taking it on September 23.

Oh, alright. I'll do that. Thank you for taking time to answer my question :)

@art This may help:

"Per Title 10 of the United States Code, the maximum number of international students at the United States Air Force Academy at any one time is 60. Therefore, we admit approximately 15 international students each year. International applicants must meet the same admission requirements as all other applicants but should be aware of some differences in the application process.

International students cannot apply directly to the Air Force Academy. They must apply through their government, usually their ministry of defense. Only a select number of countries can nominate students. The home country may also require a commitment to serve in the home country’s military. Students should check with their home country’s government for more information on the country’s eligibility to nominate and the country’s nomination procedures."
