2C parent musings

It is definitely going around the Annapolis area. I had jury duty back in July, picked up a mild case from the jury room population. Bad week, then a few exhausted weeks.
yes that is the bummer with covid it just wipes you out for weeks and of course her sport is in full practice mode....it has been a really rough week. she called me just walking and leaving the yard today and was totally winded.......ugh - just a nasty virus.....

no, BMU said we don't prescribe that.......they said OTC meds will work - well helped with fever but not the rest of the symptoms. dont get me started on BMU - lets just say they are not on top of all issues - some yes, covid not so much. she started coughing up blood...still did not get their attention. chest pains did get their attention....

I think they still select their Rings that weekend? Go early before the crowd. even before the official opening time while they are setting up.

DS had choice words for BMU this week. Went to an urgent care facility.

Getting ready for our trip to USNA tomorrow and I hope that all the mids are feeling better! Our mid is at Walter Reed today getting a pre op check up for PRK scheduled soon.

2C parents weekend was amazing!!! loved every single minute of it!! I am absolutely exhausted and I have no idea how these kids do everything they do!! we clocked 6 miles of walking on friday, the classes were amazing, the teachers were so great! the parade was so very hot but fun to watch!!! King Hall was fun, the food was ok, a chicken sandwich, mine said it is her favorite thing they serve. We went to dinner Friday night at Chop Tank - it was pretty good, thought it would be amazing. We had a great table and the view was great. It was packed and fun atmosphere!! The football game was crazy with weather delays but glad they got the WIN! Our girl is thriving at USNA and I could not be more proud of her and her fellow midshipmen!!!

Came home with fingers crossed all week, our mid and his roommates all sick. Feel like we made it!! But they're still hacking away a week later. Told him to go to get it checked but he said BMU is not helpful. Maybe he will go to urgent care this weekend.

Overall great 2/C parent weekend.

Do Midshipman have that option now ? Aside from logistics (how do they get off the Yard during the day), all medical treatment should be included in the service member's medical record. (Get's me wondering, I presume all medical records are electronic now..back in the day it was a fat , hard copy folder.)

Yeah, he went to Urgent Care after BMU hours. Had a raging fever. Rapid Strep test confirmed, prescription written, meds picked up at local pharmacy.

I recall that he had to reach out to some leadership, I think his SEL to advise where he was going and why. He has a truck this year so he drove himself. Can't speak to the medical record component, but he did use his Tri-Care so that will be documented.

going to urgent care is sometimes the only option since BMU is not always opened and they dont always treat things.....mine has gone and then just turns in the diagnose paperwork to BMU

You can seek medical care at urgent care for after hours or more emergent things (not requiring a potential hospital stay). You are required to follow up with BMU the next working day so they can log it in your medical record. You might have to call the TRICARE Nurse Line or the Duty Doc, but I could be wrong on that. That said, I tended to wait until a leave period to get stuff looked at if I could. I retained private insurance until commissioning and used it for docs at home. I could speak with them with candor because I knew that my career wasn't likely in jeopardy for just talking about an issue.
